Need place to leave car/trailer near Gibraltar

Does anyone know of a secure place near Gibraltar to leave a car and trailer while me and my friends cross over and ride through Morocco for 1-2 weeks?

Well , I would avoid whereas possible leaving the car in Algeciras , as is a high-crime city (as most harbours-cities , actually ) .

If you can not find anything better, you could park your car/trailer in Marbella/Pto Banus (about 30-50 kms from Algeciras ) . There you have several public underground parkings , with CCTV , security staff , quite safe actually, etc , at a not-that high rate . You could probbably negotiate a weekly rate , etc ... .It quite a posh city ,fairly safe , "tourist friendly" , English and German is widely spoken , and being most cars around from abroad , your car won't take undue attention neither.Id say your car would be there as safe as a car in a NCP parking at -say- central London.

Your second (and more risky ) option is the parking at the ferry-terminal itself of Algeciras . Its got CCTV , and watchmen, also , with all the convenience of being literally "over" the ferry queue. Its more cheap , and -while still safe- , could be a bit frigtening at nights. The London's safety-equivalent would be a open parking lot at Sainsbury . I wouldnt be surprised if you find something missing (stereo , headlamps , etc.. ) in a week.

By all means!!! do positively NOT leave the car/trailer in a public street in Algeciras ... or even worse in Ceuta !!!!. London's equivalent for leaving a car in Brixton with the keys on the ignition. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

If you dont find anything better , Id definitely go for the Marbella Option. Any street of Marbella is much safer than any parking in Algeciras .

You can ask at any Camping Place, we paid between 4 and 8 Euro per Day (Camping is expansive in Spain..) - we did use Camping in Torrelemious near Malaga Airport and one at Almeria (too far) - there is a Camping Place Near Algeciras on the road from Marbella to Algeciras, very near to Gibralter with Signs/Comercial at the street, no Prob to find.

Iam looking for a long time Parking for a Moto if anybody lives there and has/knows a Place...

I wanted to do this last year and talked my dad into coming with us and having the van in spain while I went to Morocco for 2 weeks on the bike..best solution if you nkow anyone who wants a hol in spain...

Holger,
I hadn't even thought about a camp site. That's an excellent idea. I guess if the car is left relatively close to the reception area it would be safe.

StanH,
That alternative has been discussed among my group and might be the winner.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

hi
we left a motorcycle trailer on an almeria camping for 17days and it cost us 50€. the next time we go to morocco we'll cross over with all our gear and leave it near the beginning of our intended trip, it's certainly easier and cheaper and probably safer! you'll find plenty of safe hotels where you can leave you vehicle + trailer.

I leave my overland-equipped LR in Tarifa, on Calle Mar-Tireno which is a quiet residential street - I'm often away for weeks at a time, but once the kids did nick my tyre valves...

You can get a ferry from there to Morocco and cut out Algeciras completely.

If you want very secure place then in Ceuta there's a parking place in central city over the street from McDonalds. I parked my bike there for some time. Quite costy indeed... But can be sure nothing happends with your viechle (closed and secured parking space).

Regards, Margus

I'll be in Tarifa in 2 weeks (from the 17th september, for 2 weeks), so if anyone parks anything up and wants me to keep an eye on it, then shout away.
Staying in our apartment there. i'd offer the garage as parking space but i'll need it for the hire car!

The road down to Algeciras from Malaga has a number of campsites, so locating one might not be a problem.

Alternatively, there appears to be a 'long term' carpark (Avenida Principe de Asturias, La Linea), camper ground just outside the Gibraltar border crossing. Where there appear to be a number of vehicles parked for weeks on end.
