Morroco to to Bir Mogrein border crossing
 

I was wondering why the Paris Dakar Rally gets to cross from Morroco to Mauritania via Samara/Bir Mogrein (or nearby)border and we dont?

(also Michael Palin and his TV crew crossed there and visited the Zouerat mining town.

The Dak gets to a lot of places we cant. Thats why it costs £6k+ to enter..

A few months ago someone mentioned they would have been allowed to go Smara - Bir Mog had they been in a 4x4 (and hung around for a permit - they were solo in a 2wd).

Cutting through Polisario territory (ie, through the berm/minefields) is one problem. But it might open up one day if enough people turn up and try.
