Mauritania Visas from Casablanca
 

OK, now have personal experience.

The campsite is Camping International Oasis in town on Route el Jadidah, and not 9km away as some guidebooks say.

The consulate is 500m away and directions are easy to get. It MAY be at N33 33.7 W7 38.7 (not my marks) but the guy may have been talking about Rabat...

Bring a photocopy of your passport, two photos and 100 Dirham, and get in early (before 09:30).

You fill in a form, wait for your turn, and tehn leave you passport for collection at 3pm.

The form asks where you are staying - we used a hotel from the LP. Visas run for one month from date of issue, and all seem to have the same point of entry (airport NKTT) which we were assured would not be a problem even though we are driving across. If there are any probs we'll add to this post;
