Mauritania Visa - London

Hi

I read lots of about getting the Mauritania visa in Rabat but cannot find much up to date on getting it before I go.

From what I can work out from various links is that its 120 euros in Rabat but easy enough to get. Or its about £110 if I get it in London before I leave. This link below helped

I live pretty close to London, the embassy in Victoria is easy for me to get to. The visa lasts long enough for me to ride there from the UK as I intend to cross into RIM within a month of leaving

What are peoples thoughts? Get it before in London, or get it in Rabat/on the road

I like the idea of getting it before I leave, one less thing for the road. I just cannot see anybody else talking about doing this and wonder why not

I've had about 8 Mauritanian visas over the years, all issued at a variety of embassies.

On the occassions I did get the visa in advance before leaving Europe it was always via the Mauritania embassy in Brussels.

In about 2012 the Mauritanian embassy opened in London, so we decided to try and get it there (via Travcour).

The application sat at the embassy for nearly 2 weeks. When Travcour asked what the delay was they said they were still waiting for 'approval' from Nouakchott'. So we requested they release our passports and we got it in Rabat instead.

I would pay attention to this line on the Travcour webpage:

"TOURIST VISAS WILL BE HELD AT THE EMBASSY UNTIL APPROVAL IS RECEIVED. PLEASE ALLOW EXTRA TIME FOR YOUR VISA TO BE PROCESSED"

This is what happened to us, and I suspect is still an issue.

Go for Rabat or the border and save the hassle, unless of course you can be without your passport for potentially up to 1 month or more.

I called the embassy here in London a few days ago I was told it took 7 days to process , but then the lady said you can also get it at the border its the same price. so no need to come here. By the way she sounded , she rather I got it at the border .

From what I saw less than a year ago, there is no reason to suspect that you wouldn't get it at the border. There's an entirely modern set up there with finger printing run by educated guys who behave like western, not typical African, border officials. Though I've heard one second hand story of a Belgian guy being refused, I wouldn't be sure it's true, and if it is, I can only assume he really antagonised them.

And worst case, if you were refused, you could fly from Dakhla to Rabat return for 100 euro (I think, maybe 100 one way).

Cheers all, I think Rabat is looking the likely option then. I may take another look nearer the time (leaving the UK late October) about getting it in London as I'd still prefer it in the passport before I set off, I'll post back with what happened if I do

Any updates?

Rabat (and other places i think) do not issue Biometric visas.

We met a couple 2 weeks ago in Togo who had their Rabat visas refused at the border and had to spend a further 120 euros each for the border Biometric ones. The border visa is quick and easy..

Just saying....
