Mauritania visa

Reading the Wüstenschiff forum I saw it is impossible to get a visa for Mauritania at the Moroccan border.
Wüstenschiff :: Thema anzeigen - Mauretanien - Zurzeit kein Visum an der Grenze !!!

Has anyone experienced this?
If so, what are the cost of the visa at Rabat vs. Brussels?

hello,I have never experienced getting the visa for Mouritania at the Moroccan border. The price in Rabat for one entry is 20 Euros and if you want multiple entries is 40 euros.Have a nice trip

Hi, the news here:

is a month or two old; dont know if things have changed (there was a period when they were not issuing at the border last year I think).

hi,
according to my friend from mauritania the government stopped to issue transit visa at the border since last week, from the 16th. of may.

i believe this is temporarily because there are elections in mauritania
at june, 6th.

there are even rumours that the border will be closed completely for a week or so for the elections.

greetz,

Well the topic at Wüstenschiff dates back only 3 days, so I guess that's the current situation. Will have to visit Rabat then.

TT-Kira 19 May 2009 18:49

Posted this 2 days ago in another thread, stopped issuing from 13th May, nothing will change until AFTER the elections! Then it's anyone's guess!

Presumably it is a security measure for the election period. The contest is a foregone conclusion – General Aziz isn't going anywhere – so you would expect the status quo (short term visas issued at the Northern border) to return in June.

Hi,

I've just returned from Mauritania, and I can confirm that VISAS are not issued at the border due to the elections. There were some Europeans being returned from the Mauritanian border post to the Moroccan side.

Also, there were demonstrations in Nouakchott against the way how elections are being held; so maybe things can get hot in the next weeks....

As usual, the rest of the country was calm!

Cheers,
José

Hello
real bad news for us!! we want to enter mauritanie at 17 or 18 july. travelling to mali. I hope they let the border open. and when it is not possible to buy visum at the border, we will buy them in rabat. first pick up my mother and sisters from marrakech, drive back to rabat and then go to mauritanie. Let's hope they don't close the border. :(

Hi Guys,

following further info from Mauritania, the border is now, at this minute delivering visas for THREE days. Cost 20 euros. If neccessary prolongation in NKTT for 15 euros for a further month. Can confirm the above , elections pushed back to 18th July, so don't forget border will probably be closed that day, unless of course they change dates again.

Good luck to those on the road.

Does the embassy in Rabat require an airline ticket for this visa? Even when travelling overland?

Narayan 23 Jun 2009 16:22

Does anyone know? Do I need a ticket/hotel booking or a carnet de passage in Rabat for a overland visa?

Chris Scott 23 Jun 2009 16:26

not needed

Not needed for many years - unless they changed it in the last couple of weeks for the election. No CdP for Mori either.
