The GPS coordinates on your website are wrong for the Mauri embassy in Rabat, they take you to the wrong side of the main road. The address is correct. I took a reading outside the door N33.98064, W06.83074 . If you get your passport in before 11am you can collect it with your visa at 4pm the same day valid for 30 days and cost 340 Diram single entry. Be aware that there are long queues so it's best to get there early.
There is a supermarket at the cross road about 100 metres away N33.98217,W6.82924 with a photo booth and photocopy machine. you need a copy of your passport and two photos.

Also, I heard the other week that the UK will be opening proper embassies in Mauritania and Mali in the near future. The guy in Dakar who looked covered it all had too much on his plate.

Is the Mauritanian embassy in Rabat really closed on fridays? And does this mean it is open on sundays?

I picked up my Muari in visa in Rabat on a Friday with no problems just over 3 months ago.. It's possible that you'll have a slightly longer wait but they opened almost straight away after prayer..
