Libya L3

I planning visit Libya and I would like to tray route from Sahara Overland. But if I prepared L3 route, I mark waypoints in Soviet maps and waypoints are nonsense location in map. Waypoints from other road are logical location near to road.
Does someone have tracks or waypoint from this route? If is possible to send me by email?

Does someone have information, if is still necessary government guide for all time in Libya?

Thanks you and sorry for my Englis

Like a couple of other routes in the book, L3 is not described in a logical km by km style, but just offers a description of a popular and spectacular region with a few useful/interesting waypoints.
This is because the Akakus national park guides do not all follow an identical itinerary even though they often visit the same places (rock art, arches, etc) which the waypoints refer to.
There is no single route here, though the map on p.546 gives a general impression.

Even when we did not need day-to-day guides at the border, guides were always needed in the Akakus NP

russian maps reneraly are good, but I had one, what was with mistake - everything was with some certain displacement. Try to calibrate the map better.

Chris, thanks you very much for your fast replay and good information.

Kaspars, I compare map calibration with cities from WorldMap Garmin. All my Russian map have correct calibration.

Thanks you

I did the akakus loop by motorbike in feb 05.
I kept the entire loop GPS track. you can have a copy. plus other routes. tell me the format you like. I dont do TTQV. but you can type them manually into TTQV

but as chris says, just a few main GPS points are needed to keep you safe and on track.

email me.

Karim

Have anybody tried out any of the routes listed in the Gandini book (a french guy who has mapped out (with waypoints) about 100 itineraries in Libya)?

This was mainly designed for 4WD, not motorbikes. WOUld be great to get advice as to which itineraries are suited for my good old R100GS (w/43l tank).

If so, anybody willing to send the waypoint over?

Thanks!
Philippe
