Libya crossing 4x4
 

Dear all,

I would like to know what experiences people have had recently crossing Libya overland (Tunisia to Egypt). I am driving up western africa and need to cross libya to go around the Med back to Europe since I don't want to take the gibraltar straight crossing.

Any insights hugely appreciated!

I don't know when you need this info. On the end of Nov I'll be able to tell you more after my return from Libya. So far I know everybody needs a guide to go into the country. If you just pass through in around 3 days it would be easier to get a visa and maybe avoid hireing a guide. You should also make a trlanslation to arabic in you passport (read country info).

Now back to the subject! Since you are planning to travel along the coast only, as I understand, you must have investigated the elusive "transit visa". I am also travelling across LY west to east this November (between 24th and 28th Nov), so would be interested in your findings. BTW, I've made enquiries at the Libyan embassy in Warsaw, but they were useless.

we were panning to go to Libya on the very begining of Nov but now I'm not sure what's going on :( there.
If everythink will be OK on 22nd Nov we have ferry back to Genoa so no chance to meet you.

We're currently in Egypt, having made the crossing a few days ago. It was fine, although there were some long days of driving, and the Libyans all drive like their hair is on fire. We used Jannat Tours, who provided us with a lovely guide, Bilal, who was very capable and fun to be with.

You presumably know that you can't drive from Morocco into Algeria??!!!

You might want to look at that problem before Libya!
