looks like fake news (propaganda) no names, no sources, no official reports...most of the story is about politics of the region.

googled it no mention of the event no where in any other news sources. given the name of that website and its other content, I highly doubt the veracity...

Not all incidents are reported.I was told by a Morrocan friend that a distant relative,a child, was killed by a land mine two years ago, unreported. This was near Msied.

However, lets not deal with semantics. The main message of this thread is to make members aware of the threat in the area and to use common sense and caution when offroad.

There is a wealth of good advice on this thread and elsewhere.

Happy and safe travels:mchappy:

truth matters

when one says a distant relative "told" ; the reader takes that into consideration and determines how much weight to give it

when on the other hand, there is a link that looks like an official source, we should be careful; especially when it's critical information that is negative like this, likely to deter people from traveling.

Horzions Unlimited is obviously not intended for discussion of politics. that link is clearly a propaganda website.

Don't know what you are on about. No tourists travel on Polisario territory, so there are none to scare away. There were plenty of details in the article. The SADR is not swarming with journos so don't expect to read about it in the NYT.

And no need to bring politics into reports of land mines. Pro-Moroccan or pro SADR.

More interestingly, Mauretania declared itself free of land mines in November 2018

Oh dear, common sense would caution anyone making potentially dangerous assumptions from any article.
read ..."Mauritania is free of all known mined zones"...
Not to mention from members of the cut&paste brigade...:rolleyes2:
If you stop and think about it, all it takes is one rogue mine. Is it worth the risk for a selfie? you decide! Curiosity can kill.
