Last year I removed a page from my passport with an Israel stamp because I had to enter Iran. No problems, no questions asked, neither on one of the many other (difficult) borders (like Turkmenistan) we had to cross. But perhaps I was just Lucky:)

There is also a possibility to take a freightship from Greece to Haifa with Salamis.
The only problem is that they don't guarantee that you can get on the ferry yourself due to lack of cabins. Truckdrivers ar given priority.

Dear ,*

Many thanks for contacting our Office.

Please note that we have*ONLY CARGO SHIPS**(each SATURDAY)*-*NO FERRY-*** .

The departures are from Lavrio port (*GREECE) . Lavrio is near theairport*of*Athens*& the arrival inHaifa*port is aprox. 3 days later

Only 12 passengers are allowed to travel with our vehicle.

Priority each time is for the drivers of the trucks.

So only on the same day of the departure at noon we have to check the availability

for cabin and to inform you if you can travel with the ship.

The price per person (in cabin & food) is: 240 euro

Are 4-wheel drives allowed into the Sinai (from Israel) again??
Cause a couple of months ago this was not the case and many travelers had to invent another route to get into Africa.
This was due to a military order to prevent car-jacking by terrorists...

Anyone have an update on this?? :ban:

I have recently read a blog where the overlanders had gone through Taba border and on the way back were told that they could not bring a 4x4 back into Egypt via Taba or Nuwaba. They eventually exhausted all their options and had to ship the 4x4 back to Cape Town from Israel.

Cheers
Reg

Israel options

Hi All
I have just finished my trip from Cape to Europe, so I put some additional input.
1. Israeli stamps. That's not true. On the entry/exit you are getting a separate small page, the carnet is not used, I have entered Israel at the Taba so temporary import doc are available without any problems, and for free.
2. If I understand besides the vessel route Iskenderum-Egypt with a stopover in Haifa, there is an additional vessel service en route Haifa-Iskenderun (twice a week) I have used this option 2 days ago. The price is 200 USD (motorbike) + 100 USD (local fees) + 265 NIS (port tax). The agent for this service is Tiran (Jaffa Rd very close to the the Port Inn). Tiran employees are very professional, they help you at the port, so doesn't make sense to take any fixer. The sailing time is ca. 24 hours.
3. In Iskenderum the agent for this service is turman (turman.com.tr). I'll use their service tomorrow to get my bike from the port back. I'll update that thread asap with my experience with turman
