Fuel / Water Libya to Niger

Hi,

Can anyone give me an idea of water and fuel availability in crossing from Libya to Niger ?
I have read the reports on SO and have picked up that fuel is limited on the Libya side after Zuweila (?), then is available at Dirkou on the Niger side. Is there anything inbetween ?
What about the water situation ? I would guess it is better than fuel ?

We'll be travelling in a Bedford truck, so will need a lot of both water and fuel. At present I have fuel enough for 900 mile range, and am thinking on water for 4 days (trying to make sense of the recent discussions of water needed in the desert !!).

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Pete

I'm told the Marlboro piste from Libya to Niger is quite well watered -
Madama, Seguedine, Dirkou at least, and probably in between, certainly at the oasis against the escarpment between Dirkou and Seguedine (e.g. Aney).

Fuel you're best off bringing everything possible from Libya - first guarantees will be in Dirkou (at Niger + price!).

definitely get as much fuel in Libya as poss. I just spent about 30 US dollars (38 dinars) on approx 225 litres of fuel (10 jerries & half a tank)- I haven't bought fuel in too many african countries but I'm sure by comparison this is cheap.
I've heard nothing from anywhere else about its quality, but the only indication I have is that after draining my fuel filter a couple of times, there doesn't seem to be any (or much) water in it.

Hi Pete,

When are you planning to travel from Libya to Niger ?
I'm planning a trip for that area as well (late september), and maybe we could share informations.

Cheers,
José

Hi,
Will be travelling into Libya beginning of July - yes I know it will be hot !!! - doing a round trip through Niger, Burkina, Mali and back up the Atlantic route.

Thanks for the reply Pete.

My plans are more or less the same, but I will start in September.
Let me know how it went.

Best wishes,
Cheers,
José
