From Sudan direct to Ennedi in Chad?
 

Now Tibesti and Ennedi are open for tourism again I am considering the possibilities of getting there form Sudan. A German GEO team drove from Debba more or less straight to the guelta Archei some years ago. Some Dutch trucks drove from Mourdi to Dongola about the same time. What about pistes in those areas? Are there any? Or should I find a route myself? Somebody knows?

Difficult to get info. Tubu in Chad say there are Zaghawa bandits near the border in Sudan. Wonder if they hang out as far north as Atrun.

The route in from ENE to WSW working north of the Ennedi and arriving south of Wadidoum looks easiest terrain-wise. Where would you check in for immigration in Chad though? Would that be a problem?

Mourdi depression and Wadi Doum are dangerous because of mines. The Geo-team took a more southern route, near guelta Beskere. Entry formalities coming from Libya are normally done at Ounianga Kebir. But I do not expect problems as long as you have a valid visa and have some contacts.

Getting a set of the French IGN maps is a good start.
