from Nigeria to Europe - how?

hi,

I'have to go to europe from Nigeria in february 2005.
I have Estonian passport (member of EU).
For journey I'll have time ~1 month (february). I'd like to do it by the land using public transport (or if possible/required then hitchhiking)
budget is limited (less than $1000)

I've thought about two routes:
1. niger->algeria->tunis->italy
2. benin->burkina faso->mali->(senegal->)mauritania->marocco->spain
3. cameroon->chad->sudan->Egypt->???

my questions are:
1. would it be possible with this short time?
2. what route should be fastest, cheapest, most reasonable?
3. what is situation in niger->algeria border: safety? guides needed? gsm allowed? where is it best to get algerian visa in west africa (is invitation/reservation required)?
4. situation in maurtiania->marocco border?
5. i heard chad->sudan is closed now, is there possibility it will be open soon?

...lot of questions and yes I browsed forum but answers are often very different, anyhow hope you dont mind my topic

any suggestions/relevant info is most welcome...

IMO the Atlantic Route is your only viable if not very exciting option.
