Dakhla to Mauritania....
 

Does anyone know if there are currently public buses running from Dakhla(Western Sahara) to the Mauritania boder? If not, other ways of getting across?....
Any space in someone's vehicle going that way mid to late January 2005?

There aren't any buses but there are various sorts of taxi vehicles. They leave from the police checkpoint by Camping Moussafir or opposite Cafe Sahara in the town centre. Last week I was lucky enough to meet a Moroccan businessman waiting at the checkpoint who took me to NDB for 250Dh. Suspect taxi guys will ask more. On balance the checkpoint seems less hassle to wait at than the Sahara cafe. The campsite itself is cool. We set off at about midday and got to the customs just before 6 with a quick stop for food. You need to get there before then apparently cos the border post closes between 6pm and 8:30am, so I'm told.

Me and my mate will be down that way on around the 27th-28th of jan.insh allah.Plenty of room.

Hi !!. Nope . the border doesnt close at any time . However .. after sunset , they (mauritanian side ) may charge you 10 euros more for working overtime.

Also , the track from the Moroccan side to the Mauritanian one may be tricky at night.
But -other than that- the border is open . I crossed at around 22:00 h , definitely night , and was ok for them . Awesome road after the Mauritanian checkpoint also .
