Just back from Mauritania. The reservation with Europcar did not work. Nobody was aware of it at the office in Nouakchott, although I got a confirmation through the international office. Self drive is only possible with a huge deposit in cash, according to the local director: something around 5000 euro, if I understood him well. With a driver included the deposit is not necessary. In the end we hired a car with driver through another agency, which was much cheaper than Europcar. The deposit on my creditcard, by the international agency when I made the online reservation, was returned automatically. But Europcar International never informed us the reservation was cancelled!
