Bicycle between Nema/Sokolo/Goundam/Timbuktu
 

Hi,

I'm currently piecing together ideas for routes for a bicycle trip from Ireland to Ghana to depart mid-August. One of my preferred routes at present is to take the road of hope inland from Nouakchott to Nema then down to Nara to Sokolo and up the northern route of the Niger to Timbuktu via Goundam.

I am wondering what the road conditions are like between Nara and Sokolo and then up Goundam. I understand that Goundam to Timbuktu has some high pistes - I can do a little pushing but... Is water availability alright on this route as I am understandably limited as to what I carry!

I would be very grateful for feedback on advantages and obstacles that I may find in taking this route.
