Ben Amera - Aicha

Hallo,

I'm travalling trough Marocco and Mauretania to Bamako in november 2005 with my RD04.
Has anyone checked out the Ben Amera or Aicha Monolyths?
As a rockclimber I must say they look rather inviting. Are they worth a little detour? and how about landmines?

Dimitri.

Hi,

There are said to be mines north of the railway.
As a precaution I would suggest to follow other car's tracks when driving north of the railway.

They surely look nice for climbing.

Cheers,
José

There's no problem to go and see the great monoliths of Ben Amera and Aicha. As Jose said, try to stay on the tracks. We've already been twice to these wonderful place (the last one was on 2004). I'm not sure you can climb these rocks. I think it will be better to ask for people first.
We met a guide who is very friendly. His name is Cheik Habib : cheikhselemtouhabib@yahoo.fr, Website : http://www.ben-amira.com.
You can ask for him at PK393 on the "railway station" but you can go without him.

Cheers
