Beach Piste in a 2CV
Another cool vid from Cyril & son.
"The longer you prepare [dig] the less you'll struggle". Hard to believe 25 years ago this was the main road down the Mauritanian coast. https://saharaoverland.files.wordpre...5/beachpi1.jpg https://saharaoverland.files.wordpre...5/beachpi2.jpg https://saharaoverland.files.wordpre...5/beachpi3.jpg |
Hope the 2CV got a good wash or it will have dissolved by now!
The owners of Zebra Bar in St Louis (Senegal) said it is also possible to drive from there right in to Dakar by beach piste, avoiding the road mayhem, but I never had a chance to try - wonder if anyone has? |
Nouredine from Loc in Marrakech told me one winter they rode most of the way from NKT to Dakar along beaches.
Certainly would be worth missing that road in north Senegal. |
Another great film by Cyril with a couple of fourbie 2CVs in northern RIM.
Many amazing discoveries. What a difference drones and proper music make! |

His latest is quite an adventure. I love the remote desert travel and dunes, great videos. But broken down in the Sahara...it is a good reminder that maybe I should not be so cavalier about solo travel.

Sorry to be a panne
Not the first time for Cyril.
This was in the 90s on Dhar Tichit. The Dakar people found him. MAURITANIE - Périple dans la Majâbat al Koubra - L'AVENTURE EN 2CV https://img.over-blog.com/580x419/5/...VSD-25-ans.jpg |

Another smashing FatVid from Cyril: Ain Ben Tili plein sud!
|
Did anybody ride the beach from El Mamghar to NKT recently on motobikes ? I am planning this next winter unsupported on two dualsport DR 350s. What are the longest distances between fishermen settlements, how problematic are potential dune crossings of which I read in older threads and will I be fine with carrying 22 liters of fuel each ? ( big XR Acerbis tanks )
How is the situation going to Iwik regarding the piste and will I be able to maybe already ride south to El Mamghar from there ? Greetings Chris |

https://www.instagram.com/p/DDuiLcQos91/ But it's only 100km (you turn inland before NKT afaik). Easily done in the span of a low tide. There are no dunes to cross - you ride on the wet beach sand alongside dunes. Or do you mean all the way from Nouadhibou. In that case I recall (in a bush taxi pickup) lots of deep soft sand ruts but no dunes. I don't recognise Cyril's video route or places - but he does like to make things hard for himself. Last I heard he's cycling solo from Ain ben Tili to I don't know where. |
