Atar to timbucto
 

Is it possible to ride m/bikes from Atar to Timbucto , then back to Dakar , anybody done it recently how far between fuel pumps etc any info would be usefull ,two of us are hoping to do the trip from Uk through Morroco and back in Jan 08

That can be done! The longest stretch I had "on route" between fuelstations in that region was about 400 or 450 km (nouakchott - noughadiobou) in Mauritania.

Atar to Timbucto...

I take it you dont mean direct. The last fuel is the hand pump at Ouadane, then a couple of thousand kms. Otherwise down to Tidjikja (R10) and along the Dhar Tichit to Oualata and Nema (R11), but even that is 800km and annoyingly tussocky on a bike. Explore in the north around Atar I would, out of the grass.
