Current Costs

Hi, just to share info about the original question, we are getting on the ferry from Aswan to Wadi Halfa tomorrow, enshallah! Current costs according to Mr Saleh are as follows:
Deck class ticket per person: E£311
First class ticket per person: E£489
Vehicle up to five metres: E£2000
Vehicle over five metres: E£3000

The above prices did not appear negotiable, and believe me, we tried. Sorry, I didn't ask about the cost of a motorbike. If you want more information on the process so far going this way check out our blog at www.arewethereyet.me.uk.

Some Spanish trying to get to the World Cup and pressed for time did not get a place on the ferry (and Mr Saleh has arranged for a second vehicle barge which is also full), so are now investigating the road option by convoy. I don't like their chances, but who knows... maybe they will be lucky. In the chaos of trying to reserve our own place, we didn't get their contact details, but if we run into them again or hear more I'll post it here.

Hope this helps someone, and wish us luck!

Those prices are what we paid also. Going second class and sleeping on the deck was fine, fine for us anyway. Staying downstairs near the kitchen on the tables would be less fun, as it is hot, smelly, and very loud.

As for our story... our barge with our car came in a few days late. Mazar was hopeless, we ended up getting Magdi to sort everything out. The barge they put our car on was also to high for the docks at Wadi. So we just said we'd make our own ramp to get the car down, as the guys there seemed unwilling to move the car. It turned out it had been there since the day before too, but Mazar never told us. We were very very annoyed.

still possible to get motorcycles on the passenger ferry from aswan to wadi halfa?

i heard a german guy recently had to put his bike on the car ferry, and an english guy on a dr650 had his bike damaged on the car ferry from wadi-aswan as he couldn't get his bike on the passenger ferry... a japanese guy a week behind the englishman is possibly still in aswan after waiting a week for his bike to arrive.

are there any tricks, tips, people to see to sort this so the bike goes with me?

No bikes on the passenger ferry any more (I think)

If it's a GS1200 or similar large bike then certainly not.

2 bikes were on the barge that my truck came over on.

hi all
i think i was the last bike to be on the ferry ,me and 3 other bikers
it was in january 2010
we shipped our bikes in the ferry ,they guys on the ferry was so rude and had a clash with them morethan 6 of them was bit thinking they are big men and wanted to beat me up
so had to wait till i reach Egyptian land and had to make a report against them
so after that i heard they stopped to put bikes on the ferry
sorry all bikers for being a reason of that :(:(:(

... and after that they will put customs crossing borders hope by next year will be open.

If that news is for real then I don't mind you putting the kybosh on the ferry. I say let's all get down there with pick axes and a steam roller.

Along with news of a new RoRo ferry from Europe to Alex, things are looking promising for overlanders to Egypt. Let's hope it all actually happens.

Now all we have to sort out is the Carnet cost.
Any suggestions?

We're just about to cross into Egypt and head down towards Aswan - looking forward to Egypt, but not the Aswan ferry : (

if anyones about, we're in an old white Range Rover ambulance - we'll be in Cairo in a few days sorting out visas, then heading through the oasis circuit if permits are available on our way down.

Telephone number mr.saleh

Hi,

We are planning on taking the ferry from Aswan to Wadi halfa but I haven't been able to get in contact with the ferry company in Aswan.

I believe it is Mr. Saleh whom you are supposed to talk to but I haven't been able to get ahold of his phone number.

Does anyone know how to get a hold of this and how to get in contact with them.

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Jonathan
