Assekrem-Hirafok

We are going to try and 'camel trophy' our way through here in about 2 weeks time (with 4wds and 'bikes). If anyone else tries it in the meantime, please post here! I'll let you know how we get on.

Sam

(this assuming I can get my (very) road-orientated trailer to Tamanrasset!!)

The bikes will have no probs Sam, but the car will take half a day in low and some bendy bits may break (as they did for all us 3). It's a great ride.

Then again, I just read Yves email so I would not bother unless you have heaps of time.

Hi Chris,

Yup, it's now (after The Flood of '02) that it's even more interesting (if perhaps not possible either!!).

Sam.

Hi - there has been a holdup near Arak:

can you translate this for the forum?

I think you will be OK, as Chris suggests. I did the piste in a 110 in October 2001. Although washed out in places, it is certainly easier going from Assekrem to Hirafok as it is predominantly downhill, we met acouple of swiss guys who had done it in another 110 in reverse, a little more gnarly as there is one particularly tricky scree slope that springs to mind. Enjoy!

Hi,
actually the piste is said to be still destroyed after the heavy rain falls. Only the eastern access to Tam had been repaired and the work is not finished yet.

I traveled there in April 2002 (mostly in 1/2nd high,) and in mho it would have been impossible with a road oriented trialer.

So best is to ask in Hirhafok or Assekrem before you try.

Bye, Yves

Assekrem-Hirafok - no problem, unchanged from last year.

In-Salah - Tam, infrequent convoy, we travelled both directions without incident - there is about 20kms total that is now 'piste' rather than tarmac - again, no problem

Sam.
