BTW I've heard that travelling through Lybia is not very secure nowadays even along the coastal road (though I believe that Lybian people are very friendly towars foreigner travellers: I've been there 2 times but before 2010).

The 4x4 thing is just at the Taba & Nuweiba Borders and just for the sinai area, i add each well documented blog i know about to the list. Just travellers on the way down run into trouble.
The way up it looks like that it is too late to send you back, you have already crossed the sinai area then - when you reach the border.. Anyway - you have also severall other options if the checkpoint dont let to go through taba or nuweiba border.
