Algerian Guide?
 

If one wanted to enter Algeria from Tunisia and wander the paved roads in the northern half of the country for a week or two and then take the ferry from Oran to Spain, would a guide be required? This might include include a loop through Ghardaia, El Golea, Ksabi, Abadla and Ain Sefra. If so how would one go about finding a guide for such a loose schedule/route trip?

Probably, as you'll need them [an agency] to get an invite for a visa anyway, though the old 'confirmed hotel booking' requirement may work in the north. The agency listed on this page will know: http://www.sahara-overland.com/country/algeria.htm

You may have more luck entering and travelling without escorts if coming from Oran and going the other way. I know people who tried to enter a back country border from Tun to Alg recently and regreted it.

Check the Oran ferry is running too. I have a feeling it's about to stop for the season.
