Algeria -> Mali -> Senegal?
 

Just saw this post from Italian adventurer Lorenzo Barone, with an interesting and creative Saharan theme to it.

Noticed on the map that he's planning to do the old trans Saharan route via southern Algiera and what appears to be Mali and then on to Senegal.

Will be interesting to see how it gets on - I haven't come across anyone doing that route for a long as far as I'm aware, but I may be missing something here.

I wouldn’t have thought Mali was safe enough entering that way?. Especially given all the reports on violent attacks

I thought the same, but I'm less familar with the nuances of the Malian security situation. It could be that he's found an in-country contact that help with arrangements to ease the way, given the nature of the challenge.

Either way, great unifying idea/concept for a trip. I'm slightly jealous!

Just watched the video from the guy's YouTube channel - he's going via the Tindouf route to Mauretania, so not further east as the covering graphic suggests.

Still, looks like its worth a follow!

It will be tough on bike/foot but he’s not the first to do that route without an engine.
