Has anyone had a look at this? Useful or no?

You may find yourself attracted to the savings of an African atlas, especially if ordering online, sight unseen. A couple that I looked at recently are the National Geographic Africa Adventure Atlas. It's an impressive title but on a continental scale, as expected it is flawed and inconsistent for actual travel use, and when depicting the Sahara sections seems to go all out to save ink (a cunning way of avoiding errors - or the need for accuracy - I suppose). Inevitably, it's heavily focussed to the southern and eastern 'safari' regions of Africa where the mapping is more detailed.
Map Studio's Road Atlas of Africa is the same as above, with long out of date infrastructure info on the Sahara. Handy for teachers or for propping up a short table leg, but not for travellers."

Go with the Michelin maps...
 

I agree with Chris... the Adventure Atlas looks good at first glance but when we started using it on our trip, the information was out of date, and all the extra 'maps' for game parks etc where generally incorrect.

Plus, the map is very bulky and heavy to carry - even in a vehicle.

We eventually used the Michelin maps and simply folded them into a clear plastic folder. That way they were dust proof and very easy to hold / navigate with.

We've been using it on our trip so far and it's had it's uses. As Chris and others have said, it is too sketchy to cross the Sahara with, but I've found it useful on the edges of the Sahara, through Senegal, Mali and now in Tunisia. We are using it in conjunction with the 741, but it is nice to have a map on a slightly larger scale. I bought it primarily for the 1:1000 000 scale of East and Southern Africa which will be more useful, I'm sure. I had found it difficult to get maps of those regions on a decent scale. It is bulky to carry, even in a car, but I've found it fits well between the 2 front seats of my Landy.
