access to Libya from Tin Alkoum
 

legend has it that you can leave libya to go to algeria, but not vice versa. as Martin and I had double entry visas for algeria, we decided to go see the paris-cairo rally in libya. we didnt get in as we didnt have visas, but the customs said he would have let us in if we had had them. so, we headed back towards but, not as far as, algeria and camped in no mans land. the libyan guards brought us supper and at 7am the first bike blasted past 100m from our tent. ace fun. right up to the point when Martin broke his leg right outside Djanet and had to be flown home!
back to the point ... has anyone actually crossed into libya this way even though they say you cant?

Would also be very interested to hear of a successful entry via this route.

The problem, I think, is very simple. They don't have the necessary stuff down there (ie number plates/insurance/customs forms etc.). Which they do have in the north.

When we crossed out (ie 'normal' way, we asked Customs in Ghat then about coming back in, and were given a definitive 'no' - the reason being the one above.
