Olaf on Garmin - Adding & viewing Waypoints

Hi, been reading this site for months (been a great help) and now finally signed up.
Off to Morocco 2nd week May for 4-6 weeks. Bought all the books, maps, junk for the car, etc. Possibly suffering info overload but no doubt I'll need it all at some point (we're planning a year to Africa at end of this year).
Have a Garmin Nuvi 1400 satnav and downloaded Olaf maps into Mapsource and then onto micro SD card to insert into satnav. All fine.

However, 2 questions:
a) Satnav shows topo map (contours and tracks etc) fine but the icons on the original Olaf map only appear when the scale on the satnav is set to about 50 / 80 meters. I'd like to be able to view the fuel, camp, hotel icon when zoomed out further - any ideas?

b) I've added other waypoints from recommendations seen elswhere on the HUBB and in Chris Scott'c books etc for accommodation, rough camping spots, viewpoints, etc. Despite having added icons for each (from the Garmn selection) these appear fine in Mapsource on the laptop but only show up on the satnav as small black dots. Any ideas how i can get these icons to appear properly (and usefully)?
Thanks
Scott

I use Olaf extensively but I can't tell you how my Zumo 550 compares as I don't use it by watching the screen to look for icons. If I want fuel or a hotel I do a search and see how far away they are.

Thanks Tim, i guess that's what I suspected. Maybe I was expecting too much from it. Chris Scott's Morocco overland book seems to have most of the info anyway and the posts on the HUBB have lots more.

Check to see whether you can change the map detail display somewhere in settings. If so, try setting it higher.

Which waypoint symbols any particular Garmin model displays seems to change with every model. Try using some different symbols, but perhaps yours can only show dots.

Thanks, will give it a try - trial & error I guess. Either way, I'm coming round to the idea that having too much info will take the fun out of the trip.
