navigating on the stars

A quick lesson in basic stargazing and finding the north.
Learn: Identify constellations, stars, planets and how to navigate at night

I don't know how accurate it is or how this can be seen around the globe (or how long this site will be online). But it beats all the books I've seen about stars and navigation.

....Ever been in the countrysite wondering what stars and constallations you are seeing, opening your book switch on your flashlight,:pinch:, whoos gone is your nightsky. Switch off your flashlight, gone are the stars, when they start appearing again you can't remember what you saw on the pages....

have fun

Astronomers and star-watchers use a small red light, as red light doesn't affect your night vision, whereas 'blue' light kills your night vision, kind of makes you wonder why vehicle manufacturers use bright 'blue-white' for their headlights, the driver may have better vision, but any approaching driver is blinded and loses their night vision, how silly is that!!

Sophie,
I've just run through the whole of this "online course" and it looks OK to me for accuracy, based on what I knew before I did it.
It is only relevant to the northern hemisphere - as soon as you travel south of the equator, you need a whole new star map based on the "Southern Cross" as seen in the flags for Oz and NZ.
