Does any one no of any good quality MAPS for the UAE I have tried to buy locally but not that easy. I would like to get Paper maps and also CD versions that I can load onto my garmin street pilot 2720. Any info much appreciated.

Good maps of the UAE are hard to find, especially with up to date road info.

The Satellite road map is pretty good, not so much for the raods, but gives you a good look at the terrain.

The best maps are the TPCs, you can buy them from Stanfords in the UK, they are 1:500 000, quite old, so dont have up to date road info but have the best detail of any of the maps. I don`t think they are legally purchased out here so they may be confiscated if mailed in, I had mine brought in by a freind from the UK in their luggage.

Garmin also have a ME map for you GPS if thats any help, not cheap though.

Hi Col

I have the middle east city Nav but really would like to have some thing that shows terrain and track etc for off road. Haven't heard of Stanford's where are they as I am going back to the UK next week. and will be going to the motorcycle show in Birmingham. So I shall also be chatting to garmin.

You won't get that from the Garmin World Map. All it seems to do for the UAE is add a bit more definition to the coastline and some nautical markers.

Stanfords is midway between Leicester Square and Covent Garden; 5 minutes walk from either.

There are 3 maps for the UAE and another 2 for Oman, at about a tenner a piece they are not cheap, but once you have them your set to rock.

Google Earth is also a good planning tool as well, spend the $20 to register and you can upload way points and tracks directly from your GPS, I used it the other day to help work out a route from the border across to Hameen.
