Garmin 700 mount solution
 

Touratech have said they would not be making a mount for this excellent satnag-doh at the price they sell the other ones they make, talk about missing the goal post but hey!

So, wanting to save a lot of shillings, after a little scratching of the few remaining neurons and a good rummage, I found that my 16 year old TT mount for my old 276/8 works fine ( djeeez is it that long already...:eek3:) and even the locking mechanism works too- (same mount TT made for the 276 btw).

There are just two slight drawbacks:
a) I have not, as yet, figured out how to squeeze in the garmin powered mount but am working on it.
b)The other is you have to use 'Landscape' mode if clamped horizontally on a cross bar. You could rotate it 90 degrees with a bit more engineering bodges or mounting on a mirror mount maybe?
and I'll be making new 'clamp bars' so as to even out the clamping force and use rubber instead of the solid plastic o.e. see last pic. basically a rod of ali with a thread made each end to take the same rubber 'grommets' used in between my 'sandwich' mount. Although, to be honest, I prefer my home made one and neither do I need the locking part as I never leave any satnag mounted- thieves would make short work anyway of bending the ali if they wanted it.

In the first and third pics I left the 276/278 old 'U' antenna holder in place which of course, no longer serves a purpose & I will remove to save weight ( haha!:smiliex:)

In the meantime, that mount does clamp onto the 700 ( which you slide into the mount from the side) which can, if desired, be powered via the usb- Yes, I know, it is neither waterproof nor desireable ( why Garmin didn't use the USB-C type plug which is still not idea but stronger than the micro one or better still the old circular plug which was waterproof I'll never know) as it is a weak 'link but it is do-able. Since the battery will last longer that most peoples' riding/driving/camel riding days, it should not be an issue as you could recharge the 700 in a cosy B&B or via a power pack or, if you are willing to hide the satnav in your bag, from your motorcycle battery while you sleep.


But in the quest to have be able to use a powered mount, I made one up.
It has some vibration negating absorbing abilty; have a look at the pic of my home made one. It works a treat and no vibrating screen.
Parts are very cheap- rubber grommets, few nuts and nylocks and bits of ali plate plus the inevitable RAM ball and arm.
