About Garmin 60csx
Hi, soon i will visit Africa and i would like to ask from people with experience if 60csx will be a good choice. They say that it has basic global map. What else i will need to add? I need only for Africa from Morocco to Gambia.

I used a 60cs through Africa, works perfectly fine. Attach with a Ram mount and you are good to go. The smellybiker map for east coast Africa works well, should be fine for west as well. Happy riding. |

I also use a 60CSx, is a good unit. I have got SmellyBiker, but not used yet. Another option for this area is the South African based maps from Tracks4Africa. Tracks4Africa - Mapping Africa, one day at a time Very low price for Euro or Dollar based people. If I were you I'd get SmellyBiker on one SD card and Tracks4Africa on another and you can try both. Unless you have a computer with you. Or else maybe you can add both maps at once: not sure but you can try. Alan |

if you haven't bought it yet, you might safe a couple of $$ and go for a 60cx, same gps features without the compass and barometer. I carry a little spare compass separate, just in case. technology can fail. Although the 60c(s)x series usually don't. cheers, sander |

there are many posting about 60csx in navigation-maps-compass- gps section. i personally own 60 csx and it is just perfect. worth the money.

Max Memory in 60 CSx
Good comments.
In my case the CSx was on sale at REI. But it's still a great unit even if it did cost a bit more. Anyone have an idea on the maximum size SD memory card that it can take? I've put in a 4GB and also a 8GB but I don't know if it actually accesses the 8 GB. It's more for a long trip where you wanted to load lots of maps without recourse to a computer/Mapsource. i think the number of waypoints is limited anyways. But if not 4 GB is pretty big. I loaded all of the Europe Garmin maps (3GB) and still have some space. |

theres an option to save tracklogs to the sd card, also make sure you save your trackklogs in time to your sdcard, before 100%, because it will be overwritten. The waypoints are stored in internal memory, i think max. 500, not sure. PM me for specific question on use, i use for 17 months on my trip now, and its a great tool. groet, sanderd |
I mean you could have Wanderlust maps on one card, garmins Europe on another, trans4africas on another etc etc !!
Swap cards as you swap continents :) |
