Hey All,

Thinking of going up north this winter on my s10 with a mate on his xt. We're thinkin of having a goal like the Primus meet in Alta and so keen to hear if there is anyone thinking same or if anyone has any details of where it is etc..and also any other rallies enroute if possible..we're looking at 2-3 weeksn round trip from London to Nordkapp to London:)

Cheers Tom

Hei Tomski,
The Primus Rally is in southern Norway at Velmunden near Bjøneroa (60* 28' 07'' N - 10* 15' 24'' E)(Google Earth) which is about 120 km from Oslo, and takes place the last weekend in Feb., in 2012 that is 24-26 Feb. Be aware there are no facilities, you must bring everything you need with you. Temperature varies, it can drop to mid 20's minus C.
To reach Nordkapp you need to cross several mountains, and the Artic plateau, weather conditions decide if roads are open. The Nordkapp road is not usually open until May.
This is the "Land of the Midnight Sun".....in summer. In winter there is more or less dark all day. However, the Northern Lights are spectacular if you are lucky with no cloud.
This trip is do-able, but it's going to cost you, and 20 days is too little. Just work out how many km's you have to do every day, whatever the weather!
Primus Rally is more realistic, but you have to prepare. Indu of this forum has lots of info.
Good Luck, and safe travels

Peter, in Oslo

Primus Borealis used to be in Alta in February, but I'm not sure if it exists anymore. I would say it pretty extreme to go all the way to northern Norway during wintertime. I know a very experienced winter-driver who did it in February 1996 and he still has physical problems.

The more common Primus Rally at Bjoneroa is far easier (I have done it myself)

Krystallrally is also an option where you sleep indoor: Krystallrally

Yes please post the link to the blog.

I think this is the last winter-trip I have heard off: Noordkaap-Trailer (English version) - YouTube

Nice trip! seems just as mad them lot lol...though not my mates...he went alone, with just his bike, almost no funds but a lot of determination :) and due to a lot of luck he was also able to hitch hike behind a patrol to reach the actual the cape itself (for free ofcourse)...

we're also thinking about fund raising so we'll see how that turns out :)
