Moto Andalucía 2007

As lots of you know, I tested the waters about a HU Andalucía 2008 earlier in the year and it got a fairly good response. So much so, that quite a few of you here and on other forums asked if we could arrange something for later this year. So here it is:

Moto Andalucia

It's a bit late in the day to be organising an official HU event, so this will be a small meet which will hopefully grow into an annual event.

I'm open to ideas/suggestions from anybody - please don't suggest a bbq - the restaurant at the site can cook it better/cheaper than I could.

If anybody wants any more info, just let me know.

ay! Andalucia de mi corazon!!!

Alison good luck for this 1st meet in Andalucia! I´m sure it will be great!

Cheers,

I am planning to tour Spain/ Portugal mid Sept until mid Oct. Sounds like an excuse to extend the trip by a few days. When does it start to get chilly?

Thanks for that Maria - you're top of my list for next year. Happy travels.

I would expect the temperature to be around 25C mid-October. The average daytime temperature in winter is 14C.

Don't forget to register your interest - I've already had a couple of enquiries!

Well done!

That really looks good! Well set up site and interesting agenda.

In two weeks latest I'll decide whether or not to come.

I'm not sure I can make this trip but I never discount anything until I'm sure :) So could you tell me, when is the meeting?
Jim

The weekend of 19/20/21 October.

It's a long way to come from the UK for the weekend, so if you want to make it into a longer holiday we'll help you arrange something. Flights and crossings are still cheap and the meet will go ahead, even if we only get one person here!!

I'm sorting out some bike hire/info out for a couple who are interested in coming over from the USA. There's also some possible presentations floating around - Morocco, Garmin GPS, South Africa and Oz. If and when they are confirmed I'll post it on the website.

Looking forward to it now.

Dates are fine for me, so I'm a probable definite. It will be good to get reacquainted with southern Spain.

Tim

JimOD 1 Aug 2007 22:37

I don't think I'll be able to make it as I start back to work on 22nd October. South of spain isn't too far to come for a weekend :) I'd have just had fun on the way down and the way back.
Hopefully when you get next year's even organised I'll be able to book time off in advance. I'll more than likely be at the Portugal meet, are you going to be there? If so, I'll speak to you then and see what's planned for next year. Just look for a tired old Scotsman on a Tiger with his son on a Bandit and that will be us :)

We're hoping to get to Portugal (hubby and me) but it's all in the hands of the British Embassy in Madrid. They are currently processing my new passport application which should be back in time, but if there's a hold up, I can't leave Spain :(

*Touring Ted* 2 Aug 2007 07:46

Sailing prices for the trip.

I checked some prices for ferries from the UK. Prices taken from P&O's website.

Based on sailing out from Dover on Friday 12th October and saling back on Friday 26th October.

Prices are for 1 adult and 1 motorcycle (price for 2 people was the same)

Dover - Calais = £17.50
Calais - Dover = £20.00

Total = £37.50

Ferries to Bilbau and back only seem to run on the Sunday which is ok because you cut out the ride through France if your stuck for time (good or bad?)

Outward: Portsmouth - Bilbao, Sun 14 Oct 2007 - 21:15, £174.00
Return: Bilbao - Portsmouth, Sun 28 Oct 2007 - 13:15, £186.50

Total = £360.50

Going through France is over £300 cheaper which will easily pay for a Hotels, fuel, beer and great food.

There's no such ferry, the best of the Portsmouth ferries go to Le Havre which saves you 140 miles compared with Calais.

Or there's Newhaven-Dieppe which saves you 90 miles compared with Calais.

Try LD Lines - they always seem reasonably priced.

Cheap ferry tickets, online ferry booking - LD Lines

Colombres Classic Bike Rally

I'm going to the classic rally at Colombres , which is on the N634/A8 about 110 miles west of Bilbao. Its on from Thursday 11th October till Sunday 14th, with a classic Hill Climb on Sat afternoon. Its for pre 1980 bikes, but is definatly worth a look if you're passing on the way to Moto Andalucia, or just need an excuse to extend your stay.

I've taken a good look at the webpage for the Colombres bike meeting; Bienvenido a la Web del Moto Club Pistón

As stated here, it kicks off on a Thurs, ending on the Sunday.
So, when do people travel there is my question - how far in advance basically?
Also, any recommendations for local camp sites would be of interest.

Thanks,

Dakota 11 Oct 2007 13:20

Just a reminder folks that if you haven't filled out the form on the website and you're coming next week, can you let me know. I need to confirm the pitches at the camp site this weekend.

The weather forecast is looking good - at 400 metres altitude, the temperature today at 2.20pm is 25C in the shade and night temps are around 10C.

Dakota 22 Oct 2007 16:53

We had a fantastic weekend and waved the 'last of the few' off into the sunrise this morning - I had tears in my eyes!!

My all too clever hubby has adapted a neat piece of code where my Picasa web albums are automatically loaded into the Moto Andalucia and Smokin` Lizard websites on the Gallery pages.

I've not got around to putting captions on the photos - too knackered as yet and need to sleep!!! I'll get around to it later this week.

My sincerest thanks to Tim Cullis and Hans (aka Vaufi) for their fantastic and inspiring presentations - we can't wait for our trip to Morocco next year!! And to everybody else, thank you for your support and see you in 2008.

*Touring Ted* 22 Oct 2007 17:42

Im sure it will much better next year.....

Caus ill be there :D

Tim Cullis 24 Oct 2007 17:38

The location of the campsite and facilities were ideal. I had a great time on the Spanish trails, and was really inspired by Hans' presentation on South Africa. Leaving the map of South Africa with me was a cruel thing to do, as I started planning routes...

I rode Malaga to Santander on Sunday, then took the ferry back to the UK on Monday afternoon along with a group from Wilcat Tours who'd been doing Morocco and a group from World of BMW who had been in the Pyrenees. 1200 GS Adventures outnumbered all other bikes on the ferry.

I'm now back in the UK, typing this wearing three layers of clothing and considering putting on a fourth layer. 42.5C in Morocco seems a very long time ago.

Just like to say thanks to Alison and Andy for organising this event, I really enjoyed all aspects of my 2 days there, great location, fantastic trails and twisty roads but best of all the company, what a great mix of knowledgable, inspirational and fun people. I'm new to HU but put me down for another visit next year !
Cheers Mike PS Morocco was awsome - everything Tim said was absolutely spot on !

Vaufi 31 Oct 2007 13:35

Great weekend indeed!

Glad you all returned home safely. Haven't heard from Leo yet.

We only returned yesterday, passing through snow-capped Pyrenees after the pleasantly warm days in Andalucia :-( So I'll get that travel info on Southern Africa forwarded some time today.

@ Alison & Andy: thanx once again for the nice weekend and all the work you invested, planning the lovely ride-outs etc.

Yep, Morocco is definitely one of the trips in the near future, so lets try to get together again next year!

Hans

Dakota 1 Nov 2007 12:18

Hi Guys

Thank YOU all for a great weekend.

Yes, the meeting will definitely be on again next year. I've spoken to Grant and we're looking at the third weekend in September. We're just deciding on whether to do another 'mini-meet' or the full works for next year.

Does that fit in with you guys and are we still going to Morocco straight after the meeting? Mike - do you want to join us if we go - get the missus riding the XT and you bring the GS!!

Leo is returning to the UK today and said he will be signing up on the HUBB as soon as he gets back.

In the meantime Tim - we'll be looking to you for all the info on places to visit/avoid :).

Keep in touch!!
