Are you promoting BMWs now? A GS Trophy to make them look like they could/should go to this places? Sure money can get you into any place and out again, as we could all see with the two British actors.

But pls Butch, this is the HUBB ... and its not for actors, wannabees or promoting any brand with bulls... slogans. Sorry, but its nothing against you (or Bmw) ... but I cant stand this useless competitons to promote what ever .... a good product does not need this fake heroism.

My 2 cents worth of today.

Nope ~ sold my F8GS a while ago and no plans to buy another Beemer bike in the future, not affiliated with any bike brands at all, just a life long hobby....

Sidenote: KTM Australia has a cool 2018 Rally going around NT / Australia but might be not the right forum (HUBB) to post with all them serious full on “RTW” hardcore bikers, eh?

Hi Butch,

and how many 1200GSs are still parked in your garage or ordered from the dealer? No offence, but why dont you post the next dates for the HD custom bike show competition in China here as well? HD also have two wheels and can go to places.

I would suggest, a mod deletes this thread. Hope you agree Butch.

Enjoy your rides.

Mate - sorry to burst your bubble, never owned a boxer engine BMW and never will as not very fond of them to be honest (no offence to BMW boxer engine owners please). Only “boxer engine” style bikes I had back in 90’s in PRC= Chang Jiang 750cc sidecars but that’s another story and would not buy one again either....

Mods, feel free to delete the thread if seen necessary and apologies well in advance for not being a “hardcore” RTW biker and might not be worthy posting at the HUBB.... All, have a great and relaxed day - keep on riding, over and out on the issue from my side!

Hi Butch, no worries, everybody here enjoys your thread about ADV Riding in China. Maybe its just me, that feels this thread about the GS Trophy does not belong here and is advertising, as nobody else said anything. So let the mods decide. And pls post other events from your part of the world. Enjoy your ride. mika :mchappy:

IMPORTANT NOTE:

I have no issues with this thread ABOUT THE GS TROPHY.

That it happens to be brand-centric is not an issue, it's an event of interest to adventure riders/travellers. If KTM or or whoever has an event, that's fine too. If someone were to post a huge BRAND pic and push the BRAND I would have an issue.

We're not ONLY about RTW travel - we're also ordinary people that ride, on a regular basis, and are interested in motorcycles, racing them, fixing them, what ever. It's all ok and related to adventure travel.

A post about a radical custom choppers show would be a waste of time, there's few of us that would be interested. But I have no issue with a post about it either, some might be interested.

As always, if you're not interested, move on to the next thing of interest - but don't slam the people that DO find it interesting, just because it's not your cup of tea.

HU is based on TOLERANCE and understanding of others points of view, whether it's brand of bike, oil choice, tire/tyre choice (and spelling), or race, religion, creed etc etc. The only thing we do NOT tolerate is intolerance of any kind.

The beauty of the world is in it's differences, enjoy it, and what you don't enjoy, leave to those who do.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Hi Mika and others

To be fair after watching the guys at the 2016 BMW GS TROPHY held in Thailand.

And watching the guy handy these big bikes with skill was just amazing to see.

The events are closed to the General public apart... from the last day, which is a shame.

It's something you need to see to appreciate how a bike in the right hands can perfume with easy.

I had a great few days chasing the guys down with me on my Honda CRF 250L.

It's not about BMW for me the bikes could have been "Chinese Lifan" for all I care.
The most interesting parts for me with the 2016 event was it was the first year China had a team, also it was the first year a " Girls" team entered

A lot of the guys who enter are "BMW owners" who do RTW trips.

Sorry, Mika, I have a lot of respect for you and I am not picking sides, but IMO I think events like these are good for motorbiking in general and good for RTW world travellers and good for the HUBB.

The Chinese team ended up in 7th place.

With the girl's team as everyone expected was last.

Looking forward to next years event.

That's my 10 cents on this matter

Hi Grant, Butch and NuffSaid

Hopefully that makes sense
yes Grant it makes a lot of sense to me. Sure we are not only about people riding around the world here on the Hubb. But this kind of competitons give people the impression that you need to ride a 1200GS/Supertenere/KTM 1290 Adv. like a pro to do any kind of journey outside your own country, which we know is not true.

Quote:

but IMO I think events like these are good for motorbiking in general and good for RTW world travellers and good for the HUBB
ok, NuffSaid, I disagree. IMO any kind of competiton is not good for traveling in general or the Hubb. Traveling is not about competing with somebody, its about yourself and your journey, the people you meet and the things you learn. If you compete/compare your journey to somebody elses you loose the aim of your journey. And you will always meet somebody that has traveled more extrem, longer, to more remote places ... so its not about this, its about your journey. So IMO this kind of events are contraproductive to individual travel.

@ TBR China. Butch. I have also never owned a boxer engine. And a trained Bmw mechanic told me a few weeks ago .... its a car engine in a motorcycle frame ... anyway, I was thinking according this line for many years.

But who am I to tell other what they should ride or not? As I said above its about everybodies individual journey and not about competiton.

So, pls excuse my interruption on this thread and enjoy the GS Trophy.

Hope to see you here in Bolivia for the HU mini meeting 2018. 16.-18. of March. I will have a bike waiting for you here if you decide to fly in.

A hug and all the best

When I travel at times when the roads become very demanding I look to within myself to "compete".
I need to find "inspiration" this has come from many "inspiring moments"
One being watching these guys and ladies riding/completing at a BMW GS Trophy.

Team India to Compete at BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2018 in Mongolia...
http://businesswireindia.com/news/f....mongolia/55542

The first BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy India qualifier came to a close, after three days of training, riding, adventure and a spectacular finale on Sunday, 29 October 2017. With the competition still in the balance right up to the final round of qualifiers, it was an adrenaline gushing finish with the best three emerging victorious to represent ‘Team India’.

Mr. Sanket Shanbhag from Satara, Mr. Suprej Venkat from Coimbatore and Mr. Winston Lee from Mumbai emerged as the BMW Motorrad ‘Team India’. All three BMW GS riders will go on to make BMW Motorrad India history by forming the first team from India to enter the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy- the sixth edition of which will take place in Mongolia in 2018.

Mr. Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, “The International GS Trophy is an integral part of the culture of BMW Motorrad and for our GS customers. We are ecstatic to introduce GS Trophy qualifiers for our GS customers in India. The BMW Motorrad community in India has truly engaged with the spirit of the GS Trophy and we are sure that this success story will continue for a long time. From the very start, this unique ‘qualifier’ has been inspiring, given that the BMW GS Motorcycle riders come from all across India and are united by their love of riding BMW GS motorcycles.”

The first two days at the GS Trophy qualifier in India started with the training of GS riders and Indian national qualifier of BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy. The final day concluded with the announcement of ‘Team India’ winners. Throughout the duration of the GS trophy qualifier in India, there were range of exhilarating on and off-road challenges held over two competition days like slalom, parallel logs, walk the bike over stones, stop in a slope, coffee grinder, elephant turn, tyre mamba, slow race, walk a circle, the garage as well as practical, teamwork and navigation tests around the region.

A nationwide search earlier this year for a trio of GS riders to form a team to contest the International GS Trophy finals produced staggering applications by riders across India, all keen to show that they had exactly what’s needed to represent their country – in the most famous competitive off-road customer motorcycling event in the world. Challenges across the International GS Trophy qualifier included skill test on a parallel log, slalom, riding on the log, garage, hill climbs, descents, truck tyres, water crossing, braking downhill, sand passage and offset parallel log.

The BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2018 will be held in Mongolia for 10 days: 7 days riding + 2 days in- and outbound journey + 1-day briefing). These lucky – talented – three will be fully equipped by BMW Motorrad for the adventure ahead, flown to Mongolia and each presented with a brand new personalized BMW GS motorcycle to ride for the duration of the event. Team India will compete against other teams from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Latin America, Mexico, Russia, Southeast Asia, South Africa, South Korea, United Kingdom and the United States of America.

The GS Trophy is not a race, but the special stages confront the participants with a major physical and mental challenge: often described as the adventure of a lifetime. It is a competition wherein riders enjoy a near-2000km adventure ride, mostly ridden off-road. Along the way they compete in a series of challenges that are consistent with the BMW GS lifestyle and designed to exercise their intellectual, riding and navigation skills, their knowledge of, and ability to live in, the natural world – and their ability to come together as a team.
