Had a brief drive over the dales on saturday afternoon and the snow on the hills looked very pretty - we may have more snow this & next week.
I've not been on one of these weekends before - I hope the bunkhouse is warm! :) & Do most eat in the pub? |
Quote:
I should think most will eat in the pub on a evening. The Pub also do breakfast, but some will be riding into the cafe in Hawes for breakfast . see you soon Dazzer |
Leigh had a chat today with The landlady { Yvonne }
I can now confirm the cost per person per night in the Bunkhouse will be £12. Please pay as you arrive. There will be a full choice for Breakfast each morning, ie Full English Breakfast will be £7.25. Butties with a brew for £4.25. Evening meal's and bar meals are available . The camp site at the rear of the Pub is also open for those that may wish to camp . All bikes can be parked at the rear of the Pub. If anyone would like to join in on the ride out's on the Saturday the first ride out to leave the pub will be Basil's at 8.30am . This Ride out will be for those that would like to do more off road. There will be more miles covered and a lot of trails. If you would like to join this group please find Basil on friday night and let him know your riding with him. Craig and I will each lead a ride on Saturday covering the same route as each other but leaving 15 minutes apart. Both Craig's and Dazzer's ride will be mostly on the back roads around the Dales with a few very easy trails and all are ok for big bikes with a pillion. Anyone not wanting to do the off road bit can miss these out and re-join the group at the other end of the trail and then carry on in the group These rides will be at a steady pace so you can enjoy the scenery. If you would like to join one of these ride's please be ready for 9am ish We will be having a stop for lunch when both groups should meet up. See you all soon Dazzer bier |
Thanks for all your hard work Darren, don't forget if you need anything done for the weekend, let me know. Looking forward to catching up with you.

Friday afternoon 3 of us went for a ride up to Tan Hill for a Brew.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4329.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4332.jpg on our way back we took in a few lanes. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4333.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4334.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4337.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4339.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4338.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4340.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4341.jpg On our return to Hardraw more folk had arrived so after a quick shower we headed for the Bar.others kept arriving as the night went on. we were all still drinkng when Ella arrived at 11.55pm after a hellish ride through the fog. Then Chris AKA Gadget from London turned up at 1.55am :eek3: Saturday morning started out very wet as Basil's group left. The rest of us seemed to eat our breakfast very slowly :innocent: hoping the rain would stop. we decided to set off on our ride out at 9.30 , it was still raining But two of the bikes were having a problem starting due to the Yorkshire Damp .By the time we got them running the sun had come out and they stayed with us for the rest of the weekend. We worked our way through the Dales using a few lanes on route and arrived in the Village of Masham for a Late Lunch under clear Blue Sky. Thankfully we were all still in one piece and the bikes were not to scuffed up :innocent: Afrer a light lunch we left Masham heading for a few more trails which took us over to Burnsal where we stopped for a Brew and Chat before we headed back to Hardraw. The road just outside Buckden was still part flooded after all the rain we had had on friday night. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4250.jpg Saturday Night in the Bar started early, the food, beer and crack were excellent. The Landlord told Iain on sunday morning that we had almost drank the Pub dry jeigerbeer For those that had a early start on sunday morning had very frosty conditions to deal with. Basil took out another group into the Hill's while most of use had a long breakfast and chat before departing around mid day. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4350.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4354.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4358.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...w/IMG_4344.jpg Thank you to all who braved the weather on friday to get there, and for helping make this a great weekend. Dazzer and Leigh |
thanks to everyone for a good weekend and thanks to Basil for a good days trail ride on the saturday
|
Thanks to everyone for making my 1st trail ride in the Dales lots of fun.
Good to see some of the photo's taken. Sadly, I didn't take many as I spent most of the time catching you all up! :helpsmilie: |
Woke up this morning with aching neck muscles - the only explanation I can think of is spending all of Friday grinning through gritted teeth.
Many thanks to Dazzer for organising a brilliant weekend. Great to see so many people, old friends and new. Best of luck to all for future travels! Laura |
Thanks for the awesome weekend guys and girls! Great company, beautiful scenery and good banter...and my Yamaha (the one that wouldn't start) even made it back to London via the Ace...proudly the dirtiest bike there.:scooter:
Safe travels everyone! Derek |
Big thanks to Dazzer for the organisation and for shepherding us around the lanes, as always it was great fun and unlike always I didn't break down:-) Hope to see some faces at Cannich later in the year.

Anyone know if Danielle got her new bike home from London ok?
|
Hi
I think Danielle will post some photos at the weekend. She did pm me to say that she enjoyed riding her new bike to work, so all must be well.:mchappy: |

Glad to hear you got home safely - I was a bit worried when you set off in freezing temperatures wearing just 3 T.Shirts! Elle :) |

Hope you have a lovely ride round and bring us all a stick of rock back. (I keep getting the urge to listen to Stiff Little Fingers.....) |
Hi
One kind chappie was going to PM me the tracks, but forgot who? Lots of love Fern |
That would be me, thanks for the reminder. :oops2:
|
Yes, I'm late - again. But there are only so many hours in the day... Right, no more excuses - here goes the report:
When I went to the last bunkhouse meeting in December, it took me 7.5 hrs to trailer my DRZ from Oxford to Helwith Bridge, although I already started at 14.00 hrs. So this time I would save half a day's holiday and leave straight after work at 18.00 hrs, not bothering with the trail bike and shooting up north on my GS - after all: "Both Craig's and Dazzer's ride will be mostly on the back roads around the Dales with a few very easy trails and all are ok for big bikes with a pillion. Anyone not wanting to do the off road bit can miss these out and re-join the group at the other end of the trail and then carry on in the group." Perfect! Well, don't know if I have mentioned it before but I'm a bit night-blind and thus not the fastest after dark. Also, despite three layers of Merino several hot-chocolate-stops were required, then throw in the fact that it is more likely to rain in Yorkshire than not, add a reasonably amount of fog when approaching The Lakes and soon it was almost midnight. The road to Hardraw was closed and as the waypoint for the Green Dragon wasn't really accurate, my GPS led me somewhere up onto the moors. That can't be right - but who to call at so late an hour? Retracing my steps I arrived at Hardraw at long last, couldn't immediately identify the pub and was already through and out of the village again. U-turn and then I saw Dazzer waving from the bridge - finally, phew! I think my summary of the journey was not exactly lady-like. :innocent: Danielle kindly showed me where to park bike and rider, and in the bar I was welcomed by the tireless landlady Yvonne - and a still impressive number of more or less sober fellow riders who invited me to a well deserved pint of J2O. Cheers. bier The next morning dawned as you expect it in this part of the country; it hadn't stopped raining during the whole night and we were quite happy to have a looong breakfast and take our time to get ready for the ride-out. http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...P1010329-L.jpg http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01032801-L.jpg Derek did his bit to procrastinate the take-off... http://d26ya5yqg8yyvs.cloudfront.net/Augie.gif http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01033001-L.jpg Did you empty these all by yourself, Terry? http://d26ya5yqg8yyvs.cloudfront.net/naughty.gif http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...1033101-XL.jpg Danielle and Alex raring to go http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01033201-L.jpg By the time we set off the sun had come out and after a second roadside repair session we were hitting the first trail http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01033301-M.jpg ... and the third involuntary stop - out came the jump leads http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01033401-L.jpg ... to resuscitate another Yamaha: Martin's Ténéré http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01033501-L.jpg Those sparkplugs don't seem to like the weather up north... http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01033601-L.jpg The rest of the group was waiting... patiently, I think... http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01033801-L.jpg They will be with us in a minute, I'm sure - ok, I'll go and have a look... http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01033701-L.jpg Somewhere at the end of this beautiful traditional stone wall... http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01034201-L.jpg Here they come! http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...1033901-XL.jpg If you look closely in the last and the next photo, you can spot the tow-rope from Gadget's DRZ to the Ténéré http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01034001-L.jpg A busy day for Dazzer: ride-leading, bike-fixing, flock-together-keeping... http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01034101-L.jpg From this point on the lane got a bit too rocky and muddy for my liking - after all I was on road tyres, without extra protection, my trail riding tool kit, etc, etc, and simply lacking the right mindset. Fortunately, a knight in shining armour wasn't far and Chris kindly offered me to swap bikes. After a short liaison bit on tarmac we arrived at the next lane and I started to doubt the writing on the tin: "a few very easy trails and all are ok for big bikes with a pillion". My backside! Why are there so many little trail bikes falling over on this easy trail then, huh? http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01034301-L.jpg Dazzer quickly volunteered Chris again to ride the big pig up and I happily followed on his DRZ. Phew... The occasional dismount of some unlucky riders provided ample opportunity to admire the gorgeous countryside - here appreciated by Paul and Dave http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01034501-L.jpg This stretch doesn't look too bad but apparently there's a nasty bend at the end of it - there where the Paparazzi are gathering... http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01034601-L.jpg Ok, Chris, if you wouldn't mind... Thank you very much, you get my "Hero of the Day" vote! http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01034701-L.jpg Feeling much more comfortable... http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01034901-L.jpg Don't they make a pretty pair? Our ride leaders Craig and Dazzer http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01034801-L.jpg Fern at the top of the lane - no problem on a DRZ, is it? http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01035001-L.jpg Not entirely accurate the signposting in Yorkshire - here rebutted by Dave http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01035201-L.jpg Then Dazzer - no, it's only his bike, ridden by Craig http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01035401-L.jpg Laura on Craig's steed http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01035501-L.jpg So the next combination must be - yep, Dazzer on Laura's Transalp http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01035601-L.jpg And for the record - this little gem of a lane is called: http://possu.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...01035301-L.jpg Wow, the only-30-pictures-by-post limit seems to have disappeared from this site (great news!) but bedtime is approaching and I will stop for tonight.
