Elefantentreffen 2006

hola gringos, ever been at the elephant rally in germany ?

I have just decided to visit the Elefantentreffen in Bavaria this year. Its in the end of january - and for sure there will be snow.

who else is coming for a beer.

I will start riding from Berne Switzerland on the Thursday, maybe spending the night at a friend place in Austria.

My bike ( I ride an Africa Twin thru Swiss winter ) is not ready for it, but I cant afford a new rear tyre, so I will go anyway.

See you there.

Mika

Hi Vincent

Quote from Werner Zwick's post: "The original one, with the 45 year tradition is held at the last weekend in January in the hills (Thurmansbang-Solla) near Passau, close to the Austrian and Czech border.
Every year 5-7000 motorcyclists from all over Europe attend. Come early in the week as level campsites are rare, and its no fun to camp on a steep slope. Its very basic toilets, no showers, lots of funny people.

The so called Altes Elefantentreffen am Nuerburgring is a quite recent event. Its held on the 3rd or 4th weekend in February on a campground next to the nuerbrurgring racetrack (I don´t think it will be open) with all the amenities of a big campground. About 2000 motorcyclists attend."

So that's the difference.

Regards, Mick

P.S. Hola Mika, can't be there this time but enjoy!.

I went last year with my boyfriend Andy on Honda C90's. We arrived on Thursday afternoon and found good camping near the gate, it's the best rally I've ever been to. Apparently it dropped to -24C on Friday night so take good sleeping gear.

I think it will be a busy one this year as it's their 50th anniversary. We rode back past the Nurburgring last year during the first week in February, the track was closed but the museum was open if that helps. I'd chose the Bavaria rally as it's far more extreme.

Andy will be there again this year on the C90, I can't make it this year but I wish I could.

I hope your tyre has some tread left, it's a bit slippery out there without snow chains or studs.

Have a chilled beer for me. Take care, Sue

Just a note here. I attended the elephant at the nurnburgring in 1971. I never was inside a building the whole time. Lots of people camping in the snow. Then the track was open which was great in that if you ran off the track you slowed down when you hit the snow bank. Things probably have changed over the years but thanks to those riders on Zundap twins who started the winter rally.

Hello Vincent, Hi Mick, hello others,

this weekend I go to another winter mc meeting here in Switzerland.

for the Elefantentreffen I think of getting snow chains. I have never used them, but I want to try. has anyone of you ever used them ?

any idea where to get used ones ? a company in austria makes them but the charge 150 euros plus postage.

anybody else interested to go ?

Mick, are you still in South America ? Vincent are you in Paris or in South America, I remember you wanted to go around Dez. for a month.

see you

so, I will have a long *wellness - weekend* at this years ELEFANTENTREFFEN. drink some beer and talk to other bikers.

I will go together with my friend Andreas Schörlein - also known as MAD MAX. Andreas rode a home made bike to India, where we met in 2000, and than continued to Oz.

I will leave for his place on Tuesday, and on Wednesday we will be at the meeting. Until Sunday.

Anybody else from the HUBB going ?

See you Mika

Just got back from the Elephant. Excellent rally and a great ride there and back. Just a front puncture that nearly ruined for us. Altes Elefanten next year I think!

I posted a few on this forum if you want to take a look

http://www.netbiker.co.uk/modules.ph...ewtopic&t=3117

I'm the one on the left in the funny hat!!

Can we post pictures on here either directly or using photobucket? If so, I'll start a new post where we can all put our pictures up.

Grant Johnson 1 Feb 2006 22:31

Mortis, you can link to photos on photobucket or wherever you like, no problem. When you start a new post, click on "UBBcode is on" to the left of the dialog box you type in, to get details on how. OR click on "faq" under the Post new topic button above, then UBB code in there.

Or just go here: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/ubbcode.html
