Vehicle storage Marrakesh airport

Hi guys

Greetings from RAK. Just checked in my vehicle at customs in the airport here for a two week flight out of the country, and the officials told me, "next time, just bring the papers, not the car".

I asked him twice what that meant and he was emphatic, no longer necessary to store car at the airport customs. I asked him when the rule had changed, he said "last Monday".

I tested him, saying, so next time I can just leave my truck in Sidi Kaouki? And he said yes.

So there seems to be a rule change, but my french is not good enough to get more info than this. Maybe someone else can confirm.

A Moroccan friend was telling me on Friday that you don’t need to store the car with customs. But I think that was more of a ‘anything can be arranged in Morocco’ situation than knowledge of the rules changing

If they have facilitated storing in another place that would be great.
You could do it in the past but there was some more bureacracy involved.

I did it in the past in Ouarzazate. They wanted the keys... or at least one of my sets of keys :)

Well I will be picking up my truck next week and will ask again, maybe get a confirmation. But I even asked, "can I just leave it at my friends' house, and the customs guy said yes. So it will be interesting to see if I get the same answer. Will ask about Dakhla also.

Excuse my ignorance here, but whats the reason for this, is it that if you want to leave the country for a period of time you must check your vehicle out? Need to know as I want to spend a few months in Morocco but will have to come back to UK once a month for work.

The vehicle is linked to your passport CIN number, you have to register it in Customs or you will get flagged at whatever crossing. 6 months max for vehicle.

My friends leave their camper van in the pay car park which is outside the front of marrakech airport and then just leave a key and docs with customs, they have done this for at least the last couple of years
