Two up riding on Moroccon pistes - thoughts?

I'm planning a 2 week trip in October with my bike (800GS) in Morocco.

Is it possible to ride the pistes two up on 1 bike with average off-road riding skills? I'm specially interested in the piste for Erfoud to Zagora and some unsurfaced middle-atlas roads, Rekkam?

Any thoughts are accepted :-)

Two-up in Morocco

The piste from Erfoud to Zagora has been vastly improved at the Zagora end. Tarmac soon methinks. You can still ride the old piste which runs parallel but it's very dusty in places.
The Oued Rheris just west of the village of Remlia can be tricky. Impassible if flooded, sticky when wet and soft and very dusty when dry. If it's not possible you can take a long detour and cross much further north. Best to ask for local advice as could be difficult two-up.

Lots of good trails in the middle Atlas and Rekkam. Just watch out for damage from flash floods.

pistes

I read your post and I remembered my only regrets in traveling morocco for 6 weeks this year were (1) not spending more time there and (2) not traveling the pistes,I had a motorhome which is useless off road although we did drive the very easy piste to fort bou jerif,But we are hoping to go back this year and remedy those regrets.By the way southern Morocco is a bikers paradise, with traffic free roads, spectacular scenery and plenty of cheap acomodation not to mention fuel. Anyway I' sorry I can't really offer you any advice on traveling the pistes two up, but if it's any help we did see plenty of locals on their ancient motobecane peds two up on pistes everywhere,so I'd hazard a guess that as long as the pistes are'nt too technical you should be good to go.Get your self a copy of Morocco overland by Chris Scott, It's full of info on a great veriety of pistes and a load of other relevent info. Best of luck for the trip

I'll be giving it a go 2 up with my missus in October along with a couple of pals, when are you heading out there?

Hi

If you have ridden off road before and take it steady its not a problem.

enjoy

I am going with the Missus during October for 3 weeks so I hope to see you out there. Will be going clockwise starting Tanger Med/Ceuta. We will be taking it easy along the POistes too.

We have a 12 year old 1150GSA on tarmac tyres with tent and camping gear too so it does weigh a bit!
