The Long Road South

Hello

Arriving into Tangier and planning to get straight onto the motorway. Initial destination is Essaouira.

Can anyone please recommend a place to stop for the night, on or close to that route just in case we struggle to do it in one hit.

Cheers Chaps.

El Jadida is just south of Casablanca and a little over halfway. From here take the coast road through Oulida, Safi to Essaouira lovely coastal drive and much nicer than the main road.

It is doable in one hit but its a good 10hours

Left Tanger Med at 2 p.m. drove over Marrakech to Essaouira non stop arrived just before midnight (it was New Years Eve...champagne a-waiting :))
In rush hours passing Rabat took two hours.
I would have preferred the coastal road but that would have taken much longer.
We use www.booking.com quite a bit for Morocco.

Assila

It depends on when your boat arrives.

Assilah is a great little town and only 1-2 hrs from Tan Med. You can then have a full day the next day.

The Wardens advice is great as the coastal road is a fabulous way to start seeing the 'real' Morocco.

Asilah is beautiful and Larache, a bit further down, is a little gem.
I don't know what sort of place you want to stay at. We have a camper and used the motorway service areas on the long legs of our journeys. They are clean and hassle free and are designed for overnight vehicle parking. You would be able to put up a tent at most of them.

Thanks for the suggestions, following the coast road south of Casa looks a nice drive. I`ve read up on Oualidia which has a nice lagoon with nearby hotels. Can anyone recommend a place to stay, we normally pay around the 350D mark for two.

Cheers.

Acco in Oualidiya

There are a few boutique hotels around the lagoon which are about double that and expensive to eat in. There are cheaper options along the main road at the top of the hill above the lagoon that would do very well and you can drive down to see the lagoon.
