Tata to Tafraoute
 

I will be in Morocco in October with a rented car Dacia Duster 4wd. I will mostly spend my time in the south and would like to visit Anti Atlas too. Now I'm checking if there is a road or not very difficult piste from Tata to Tafraoute if possible via Afella-Ighir.I found MA3 in Morocco Overland guide book. How difficult is it? Doable by Duster and not very experienced 4WD driver? Do somebody has some recent report of this route?
A different route south of MA3 is also mentioned in book and marked on the map (from MA3 km 50.5 to MA3 km 140,5) but not described. Do somebody know, does it exist? Is it sealed or not? If not how difficult is it?
Any other recommendations how to come to Tafraoute from Tata?

MA3 is a fantastic route and I'm sure you can do it in a Duster. Regular cars go up there. The other route mentioned is a haul track for a mine. Easy and much less specular I'm told.

With one exception, none of the routes in the book are difficult in a 4WD (floods and landslides aside.)

in Januari it was not possible to do Ma3 with a car,
due the floots the road was blokked, with the bikes it was possible,
maybe everything is now cleared.

there is now a tarmac road starting 10km North of Aït Ballou to Tafraoute,
or via the Ma2 it is even possible with a sportscar.

How far from Ait Ballou was the piste blocked?
And one more question. There are two gorges from Afella to Tafraute, Tizerkine (part of MA1 route) and Mansour (suggested in Lonelyplanet). Which one do you recommend?

Tizerkine is piste in some places, Ait Mansour is unfortunately now mainly tarmac.

Quite a strong subjective statement, and seldom the case in reality. It is never not possible, unless it is a high level piste which has been eroded away from the face. That photo has all the makings of a fantastic drive, with the right care and time to enjoy it slowly.

MA3 was also blocked in October last year, and definitely not possible in a 4x4,

that was januari, it is possible that you can pass now,
due the rains of november many pistes where more difficult :mchappy: to deal with.
In januari 2014 whe dit almost the same track and there were no obstructions on the pistes.
Now whe couldn't go South where th red line is even not with 7 people to carry the bikes.
Photos don't show everything, when it is difficult whe don't take pictures.
When everything is ok it is a nice, easy an beatiful track
