Taking a motorbike in a van into Morocco
 

Hi all,

I've got a trip coming up where I'm planning on driving through Morocco and down to Senegal in my van with my KTM in the back.

I had originally been confident that all I'd need is an ATA carnet but I've just read that Morocco only uses the carnet for trade shows/the Maroc rally.

Does anyone have any experience with taking a bike in a van/trailer into Morocco or have any idea of how this can be done, is it possible on an ATA carnet?

I'll be traveling solo so no option to go in separately without the bike being in the van unfortunately.

Never done it myself but I believe as long as you the owner are present with both of your vehicles and their ownership docs, it is not a problem entering with both and has been commonly done. Never heard of similar entries needing an ATA carnet. It's when owners of transported vehicles are not present that things get sticky.
I would hope it's the same story in Spain, post Brexit.

Thanks Chris, I was sure I saw somewhere that you could only take one vehicle but now I can't see anything of the sort so I think I was just worrying myself over nothing. Both registered in my name with all the paperwork so that shouldn't be an issue. I'm hoping Spain won't be an issue, at least it's not France as then I'd be really worried.

I took my bike into Morocco in my van in March this year. (Via Tanger Med) Just provide the customs guy with both registration docs and your passport and show the bike, and they will provide the temp import cards for both. It was straightforward and no questions asked. The difficulty arises when you arrive with multiple bikes in different names, as Chris states, and the paperwork starts to get complicated!

I also had more difficulty getting into Spain than France on 2 separate trips in the last year where I had 6 bikes in the van, in different names. In Spain (Santander) I got rapped knuckles for not providing a customs declaration - 2 or 3 bikes ok, but they have to consider my excesses as commercial! Allowed in, but told "don't do it again". In France (St Malo) the customs guy asked if I was emigrating, and when I said no, he said "Good, otherwise I would have to charge duty on your bikes", grinned and wished me bonne route.

Just for an update on this, it's absolutely as easy as said here and no difference to the way it was described.
I crossed over from Algeciras to Tengier Med today, when asked for vehicle reg documents I told them I had a motorbike in the back too. They simply took both V5s off and didn't check inside anymore than they would have if there wasn't a bike. It took less time for me to get the two import cards than it did the other British van who arrived before me.
