Recommendations for Visiting Marrakech and Fez

Apologies, I know this has been asked a gazillion times but here goes:innocent:

So, we've had some pretty grim experiences with campsites in Morocco so we'll be avoiding them unless someone has some personal recommendations.
Alternatively recommendations for hotels.
Locations suitable for visiting Marrakech and Fez, either walking distance or taxi ride.

We're in a Sprinter camper van so want somewhere with easy access and security.

We'll be there sometime mid Novemberbier

Can't help with Fes I'm afraid.

Marrakech campsites are quite a way out of town. The Relais de Marrakech, is popular but a long way out of town otherwise a nice site. About 100dH per night but if your heading into town by the time you factor in taxis you not far off hotel costs.

An alternative is Ourika Camp to the south. Not stayed here for a few years now but it is on a bus route into the medina probably costs less as a base when you take into account travel.

Nice thing with campsites is you vehicle is pretty safe while you explore.

For hotels I've used Hotel Islane next to the Koutoubia many times, great location and not bad on price. They do have parking but when I've stayed there I've not had a vehicle with me.

Thanks very much for that.

I'll check them out. We're only planning on staying a couple of days. I've been to Marrakech before but my wife hasn't. I like it but only in small doses:clap:

last time we were in Fez we stayed at Camping international, next to the football stadim.
it was ok not the best and a bit rundown (this was in 2012)

they send out motorbikes in the early evening to lead you in to the site!

the Mdina is fun we took a guide,

worth heading to Volublis a Roman ruin near Meknes,
again we took a taxi rather than driving, and it didn't cost too much if you go in a group.

Relais de Marrakesh is a great site, the food in the restaurant is fantastic!

Marrakech hotel

We stayed at the old Peace Corps hotel in Marrakech during our honeymoon. I served in Costa Rica.

Sidi Sur is the name of the hotel ....and bring your hammock - we slept on the roof top patio very near the souk - which is the amazing part of Marrakech.

Made love in the Arabian night! Got totally stoned, forgot the world and entered the moment, and the rest of our lives.....

After that it was off to a five star, well almost, in Essaouira. on the coast!

Be French when in Morocco, and honor the King.

Campsite in Fes

Camping Diamant Vert is the best campsite in Res. Recently completely renovated. New sanitation block, new bungalows and new restaurant on site.

Happy trails,

Peter

Relais of Marrakesch will not dissapoint. Don't worry on distance from the city center, they have contracted taxi which come each hour or depends on need.

Guarded Parking in Marrakesh.

RussG,

In Marrakesh, Parking Kououbia ( Next to the Mosque. ) Seems to have a great location and is guarded. It is listed on iOverlander.

Also a video review on YouTube.
