Night time temperatures
 

I am off on my trip in a week and a half and all of a sudden, things are occuring to me.... I guess it happens to everyone!:rolleyes2:

I was going to spend a few nights out wild camping, more for the fun of it rather than neccesity, but also to break up what would otherwise be a long day.

Of course the evening temp will vary depending upon location, but I was planning to spend a night in Erg Chegaga to avoid crowds and also a high altitude camp out on the road between Boumalne du Dades and Agoudal.

I am kitted out to camp down to about freezing point, but much below this I am going to have an uncomfortable night and might want to re-think.

I know the high altitude camp is liable to get below freezing, but not sure what it will be like in Erg Chegaga at the end of April?

It's currently extremely mild, though this can of course change.

You're likely to be at 2000m or below in the mountains and forecasts at 2500m are indicating lows of between 4ºC and 7ºC. Zagora is in the same temperate zone as Erg Chigaga and is currently predicted to have lows of 13ºC to 18ºC.

jeepers that is a lot warmer than what I expected.

I would expect that the temp could fall well below 0 in the mountains then. Can this happen in the desert areas or is freezing an unlikely occurance?

It can be really cold in the sandy areas, I slept beside the bike one January (no tent or sleeping bag) and it got down to 1°C. But temperatures are starting to warm up and some nights might not drop below a sweltering 25°C.

That sounds pretty rough. Some idea of the temp extreames is useful. The high nightime temps in the desert sound pretty rough but with little humidity they will be nothing like half that temp back in the UK. So I am told!

I think my high altitude camps will need a back up plan just in case. The weather forecast looks like high temps are prevailing but who know what wil happen next week.

I'm off to Dakhla in October and hoping to stay there until March (I've had enough of Cumbrian winters).

Can anybody tell me about winter night time temps there? Although I'm taking the bike I've given up on camping and invested in an old 4x4 motorhome for a decent bed each night. However it's not got the best insulation in the world, so I'm wondering what kind of sleeping bag etc. I'm going to need.

But of course you have to go looking for it. Lower altitudes are much milder, but inland desert areas you have to expect freezing or below at night.

Need to be prepared for lots of rain in some areas and roads can turn into slush pretty quickly. Flash flooding has washed motorhomes away at times.

Really, in Dhakla? Not really very likely Dhakla is an awfully long way from the Atlas. Average January temps are 12-14 Centigrade
