Morocco October anyone ?

Hi folks:cool4:
Looking at going to Morocco from the UK in October :mchappy:.Have only ever been to Europe before and would like some company if possible.I'm going from Plymouth to Santander on 30th Sept heading for Portugal to see friends for a couple of days then off to southern Spain to cross into Morocco (hopefully about the 8th or 9th Oct). I'll be riding a DL650 and looking at spending up to two weeks in Morocco (routes, destinations and times are very flexible).

If you fancy a couple of bier in the :palm: and :Beach: and get away from the :rain: here's your chance.

Heading out in October in a Landcruiser also aiming to be in Morocco for the 9th then head down through the middle atlas across to then coast the zig zagging from the Atlantic across to Figuig over the next 3 weeks

happy to meet up etc along the way :)

nigel_tailyour 30 Jul 2012 11:30

Yep! Leaving UK and arriving Santander on 6th October. Arriving Morocco 10th October. Staying for 3 weeks and heading Clockwise. First stop is Fez.

Sounds like our paths will cross at some point.

Just seen your in Reading, me too during the week for work :)

DeeGee 31 Jul 2012 19:49

There's five of us on four bikes getting the ferry on the 3rd/4th October Plymouth-Santander and returning from Bilbao on the 20th. Our paths will probably pass, good to know fellow countrymen will be out there at the same time :thumbup1:

TheWarden 31 Jul 2012 20:13

our planned route at the mo is something like this

Tangier Med - Azrou 9th October
Azrou - Midelt (ish)
Midelt - Essaouira
Rest Day Essaouira 12th
Essaouira - Tafroute
tafroute - Tata MA3
Tata - Foum Zguid MA9
Foum Zguid to Taliouine MA7
Taliouine to Ouarazazate MH7/MS9
Ouazazate to Nekob MH4
Nekob to Zagora MS1
Rest Day around Zagora 21st
Zagora to Erfoud MS6
Erfoud to Figuig Hybrid of ME routes
Figuig to Med Coast
Ferry from Santander 31 October

Most routes are from Chris Scotts book although some are hybrids of several routes and some from hours looking at google earth :D

We'd love to do the Plage Blanche but being fairly new to this won't on our own.

If any of you bikers are along the same routes we can always travel together (although I expect we'd be a long way behind) and maybe we could carry some excess weight for you

Morocco October too

Hiya,
I too am trying to sort a Moroccan trip in October, just waiting for a couple of mates to come back to me.
As I live in the Algarve it could be easy for us to meet up before you sail the straits.
I have no fixed dates as yet, but your 8/9 Oct appear to be fine, and the only agenda I have is to go to Marrakesh! Been three times to Morocco and still not got there.
I have a Africa Twin 750, so it sounds as though we could be nicely matched too.
If you wish to discuss further email me ridesofdiscovery@gmail.com

Hope to hear from you
Chris

Hi, going in October all month, two up on moto sorts meet Using the itinerary in this thread? What do you think?

akceller8 12 Sep 2012 19:38

I'm currently meandering around France on a Triumph Explorer with a loose plan to follow the sun south to visit friend in Gibraltar and maybe meet up with another who's going to Morocco on holiday. Your timings could work out good for me and like you I've only ever traveled Europe so moral support for border and navigation would be great. Will watch this thread and let you know if I can meet up.

TheWarden 12 Sep 2012 21:06

3 weeks Sunday till we leave the UK :D Truck got a god report from the garage almost ready for off now

Irishkev 12 Sep 2012 22:45

Hi Neil. I will be there at the same time, going east first and clockwise direction, will probably cross paths, will keep my eyes open :)

jqd05a 13 Sep 2012 09:17

Current plan

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the replies, current plan is myself and Chris (above) are taking the ferry to Tanger Med on the 7th from Algeciras, heading for Marrakech but with no fixed route at the moment. Hope to see you at some point .:mchappy:

We are setting off in one week from Austria (Carnet going in the post on Monday) - hope to be in Morocco mid to end of October -

Will spend 4 weeks in November doing volunteering in a village in mid Atlas, then on to Mauritania...

If you see an old Russian army truck then give the rear door are tap! I shall keep some beers in the fridge expecting!

nigel_tailyour 17 Sep 2012 11:16

Thanks for your itinerary. We are going to steal your excellent route now that you have done all the hard work for us. We will be 7 days behind you.

nigel_tailyour 17 Sep 2012 11:23

First 24 hours in Morocco

There is an excellent article in the Adventure Bike Rider magazine ( in the UK) in the September/October edition. It describes the formalities before your entry into Morocco and during.
I have photocopied it and will be taking it with me.

SarahJ 17 Sep 2012 19:45

Us too!

We're heading down there at a similar time - ferry from Portsmouth to Santander 2/3 October, will probably get the ferry from Algiceras to Tanger Med a few days later. No route planned as such - want to get to Marrakesh at some point, and meander down to the southern end which Chris Scott reckons is the best part.

We have 7 weeks, which is handy as neither of us are iron-butters - we like to travel slowly!

Riding two (modified!) MotoGuzzi V7 Classics just to be different :D

Our first time out of Europe too, and would be happy to meet up with folk along the way for bier and/or rides

jqd05a 18 Sep 2012 16:20

We 'll be heading to Marrakech round about the same time :mchappy:,not sure of our route yet though. Hopefully our paths might cross.

Regards

Neil

DeeGee 18 Sep 2012 20:10

There's a few of us on KTM's catching the boat at the same time from Portsmouth. Heading down to Maroc too, but we've not got so long! doh

TheWarden 6 Oct 2012 12:57

When and where are you getting ferry to Morocco? i'm heading through spain now but don't know when i'll cross to Maroc

TheWarden 6 Oct 2012 21:17

algerciras to tanger med on Tuesday, fingers crossed lunch time

SarahJ 9 Oct 2012 20:45

We were delayed with the ferry problems but on our way a few days late - halfway down Spain now, planning on ferry to Morocco in a couple or three days after staying with a friend near Seville. We're on our way, woohoo!

akceller8 10 Oct 2012 20:01

I may make it to the ferry for the same time. I'm currently at Cazorla in Andalucia getting a bit of offroad training with Touratrail. Although i think just making it to their house without falling off or dropping my bike should qualify me as "off-road god", lol.

About one days travel from here to Algerciras so if you can PM your ferry details I'll see if i can get in time for same one.

If not enjoy Maroc, maybe I'll see you on the roads. I'm the one on a blue Triumph Explorer thats way too overloaded.

TheWarden 12 Oct 2012 21:56

In Essaouira at the mo heading to Tafroute tomorrow then aiming to be in Zagora next Friday to watch some of the Rallye Du Maroc. Our rest day neatly fits with the raid's final day :)H

Having fun so far good route through the Middle Atlas ending at Timolay campsite just before Atlas Overland arrived. Met Peter and co and enjoyed. Few beers :)

SarahJ 13 Oct 2012 09:23

We're stuck in Madrid waiting for parts after blowing a head gasket just south of Salamancar :-(
Hoping to be back on the road and Morocco bound next week. Very grateful for European breakdown cover, so better here than Maroc, but a bit of a bummer nonetheless...

akceller8 14 Oct 2012 16:38

I'm still in Cazorla and in no rush so if you know when you're on the move again let me know.

TheWarden 14 Oct 2012 21:34

In Tata eating 26 degrees 20:30 :). Did Ma2 in reverse fantastic drive heading north tomorrow on MA6.

TheWarden 16 Oct 2012 20:31

MA6 was amazing Tarmac apart from a slighty rude french group. We were heading North on th elong climb and saw them heading down so waited at a wide spot, opened the bonnet to let the engine cool a bit and only 1 of the first 6 vehicles checked to see if we were ok. Tour leader sailed past with his nose in the air, no effort to thank us for waiting or that he had another 9 ehicle to come.

Took a slight deadend once we hit the tarmac but ended up in Taliouine. Did MH7 today stunned by the route, tricky in places after recent rain damage but we got through.

Last two days hae resulted in a snapped upper trailing arm so we're in Ouarazazate for repairs tonight.

akceller8 18 Oct 2012 17:39

In La Linea next to Gibraltar, just bought my ticket to Morocco from Carlos in Algeciras, €100 open return 1 man 1 bike. Ready to go tomorrow but weather looking wet so may wimp out and hide in tent and go on Saturday.

Saraj, if you've sorted your Guzzi and know when you're crossing it'd be great to ride with you guys a way.

SarahJ 18 Oct 2012 20:13

Got the Guzzi back today, with shiny new piston rings and gaskets, so good to go tomorrow. Will have to take it easy for a while whilst it all beds in, and also wary of the predicted rain, so will probably take a couple of days to get to friends near Seville, then on to Morocco a couple of days after that. Sounds like you'll be there well before us, but maybe we'll see you on the road :mchappy:

teapotone 21 Oct 2012 16:25

I'm at Beni Mellal now having done Chefchauen and Fez on the way down. Thinking this is gonna be my furthest south for this trip as I wasted too much time in Spain. Heading over to Casablanca tomorrow then back up atlantic coast to Algeceras.

Finally met some fellow HUBBers today, sorry lads I didn't write your names down so forgot them instantly, hope you found some nice roads on your way back north.

TheWarden 22 Oct 2012 20:45

In Erfoud tonight meeting lots of old friends if you know what I mean lol. Met a nice German group in the campsite.

Start heading east for Figuig tomorrow expect to take a couple of days to get there. Then we start the slow haul north ( reluctantly) to Oudja the med coast and home

TheWarden 25 Oct 2012 20:42

In Figuig today enjoying a rest and no touts. Set off tomorrow to Oujda over the next few days before two days along the med before we head home

We arrived from Bilbao last night after 4 weeks in Morocco. Great fun but sad not to meet up with bikers. Highlight for us was Erg Chebbie and the Tiz n Test pass. Crazy road!
