Morocco in December/Jan

Hoping to leave mid december to mid january.
Are my crazy?

What kind of question is that? A plan to leave Ireland for Morocco in December or January won't support definitive conclusions of sanity or insanity on its own. Should you steadfastly refuse to adopt to the obvious seasonal limitations, well, that might tip the balance toward "crazy."

You'll have to dress warmly, leave extra time to compensate for short days and stretches of miserable weather, and bring along a healthy dose of masochism. You'll also have to scale back any ambitions of rambling carelessly in the high Atlas, or lounging around half-nekkid on beaches. You might luck out on conditions--but then again you might not, so you'll need to respond flexibly.

I toured Morocco during exactly that period six or eight years ago. It was fine. Sometimes I got cold, and sometimes I rode--against all advice--after dark.

Caveat: mileage varies, so please don't blame me.

Hope that's helpful.

Mark

Thanks mark. You have just spoiled my visions of rambling among scantly dressed ladies along warm winter beaches :)

Don't mention it. Somebody's got to step up and do what needs doing!

I'll add that in the balance it was a lot more fun riding around Morocco/Western Sahara in December and January than it would have been staying at home (or elsewhere in Europe).

Interesting thread. Thinking about a UK to Morocco (through Spain/Portugal too)...

But in March/April

You could be lucky with the weather in Maroc in Dec/Jan. I had no rain but very cold through the mountains 'til I reached the south. Chilly in central Spain too.
The rain appeared at the Pyrenees and through France and it was grim.
A ferry to Spain would tempt me to do it again - and a heated jacket and h-bar muffs - oh, and a better sleeping bag!
Have you considered a fly-ride visit?

Just found out my now BFF is driving to southern Spain for a month in his van, with room for my bike.
This could save a lot of time, fuel and cold weather riding.
