Leaving your vehicle in Morocco whilst you fly out

Has anybody parked long term in Marrakesh airport
thinking of parking Irish Registered 4x4 and using Ryanair to fly in and as we now have direct Dublin Marrakesh flights at good price

Any feedback welcome

Not used the parking but your vehicle needs to enter and leave morocco with you.

Unless things have changed leaving a vehicle behind is very difficult/impossible

There are a number of euro registered vehicles in the long term airport car park
Customs / Duane at airport tell me I must leave Keys and Vehicle Documents with them
I know 6 months is the maximum stay in Moroc for a vehicle , but that is ok by me I can bring it to Mauratinia of Cuta and start another 6 month stay if required

Yes you can leave the vehicle, I did the same with the customs at Ouarzazate airport. Your original entry documents will probably be for three months—same as personal entry—so get that sorted at same time. Big penalties if not back and out of the country within six months.

The six month limit is per each calendar year so it includes any earlier visits the same year. The limit is tied to you, not the vehicle. I saw the computerised system in action at Ouarzazate and it records each entry and exit together with vehicle details. The only slip in the system is when you get a new passport and a new police control number is issued rather than carrying over the old one.

On a related point, do you know if we could overnight in the airport car park? Our camper would be quite obvious, but it would be convenient for us and the car park charge woudl be good value.

Yes you can , my friends do it all the time , just be discreet . Failing that there are lots of parking lots very near by .

Begs a few questions:
-what is the fee say per month for airport parking?
-so if I for some reason missed the six month limit, if I had a new passport made they wouldn't know?
-It would be just brilliant to have a simple but trusty old 4x4 standby at the airport, one could grab a flight and go on adventure at any time. Even better if several people could share in on the fun, but as I understand it, it is only the driver/owner who can take the car out of customs??

If you go over the six period getting a new passport will make no difference, you have to pay the very high permanent import fee or the vehicle will be confiscated.

The parking charge is 30d per day approx 3 euro

I think I will swing by and talk to the customs guys in person to see what they think about it.

Importing a vehicle and leaving it at the airport is fine, but as Tim says it's not a long term solution. You need access to a locally-owned vehicle, then you can go out and play without any import/passport hassle.

I called into customs at Marrakesh Airport a few weeks ago and the story is simply hand in keys and papers to the office for the car/4x4 and collect on return but max stay 6 mths

Can you purchase short term Axa insurance on line for Morocco or must you go to Axa office ? ?
I cannot see how to do it on line

Even better with a Swedish registered car since I get free green card with a phone call!

Only question is if someone other than the driver/owner can get the car out of storage.

I would also like to know if someone other than registered owner can take the car from customs as my friends and family would like to use my 4x4 while in Maroc
