I left my yellow duck at top of tizi n test

Not the most important of topics I know but I made it to cafe at the summit and took a picture outside the cafe with a soft toy duck. An I think I left it up there. It means a lot my young kids so if anyone is passing ask the helpful guy in the cafe if he has seen a yellow duck!

I'll be there in a month time, I'll ask for you if no one has got there first!

A short sighted Eagle may have had it by now:clap:

Thanks both. I watched a video I made at the time and can see sonic the duck in the background. Just to the left of the cafe at the summit is a plaque and there he was. As well as being a kids toy I have travelled with this duck since 1997. Enjoy your upcoming trip, I had a great time even on a Honda Blackbird so if you have something more suitable I am sure you will have a blast. Regards. Garry

I know it is silly, but it is a bit of an upset. I had Indicator Dog whom I found in a pile of rubbish somewhere around Hungary/Croatia. I cable tied him to my indicator and we had a great ride around the whole of europe. As a solo traveller you soon start to talk to inanimate objects and fury one with eyes are so much better than a switch or a lever.

The one day at home, he fell off somewhere...."WILSON"...! I rode around everywhere I had been looking for him. Little sod probalby found a BMW to ride on!

So now I've got Hot Chick. a small duck I resuced from the dog who was ripping it appart.

I'll make sure I take a look for you!

That's a shame but thanks for looking. Hope you enjoyed the ride up the Test. Time to get myself a new Duck and move on!

Gazzr:

Did you ride the Tizi-n-Test pass on the crotch rocket pictured above? Reason I ask is that I am in the south of Morocco (Zagora) at the moment, riding my ST1100, and I am interested in riding this pass. I'm very comfortable with mountain passes, having done just about all of the paved ones in Europe, and having spent many summers riding in Switzerland.

My primary concern is whether or not the road is paved all the way. I'm not concerned about the narrow road, hairpin turns, trucks, etc. - just about the road surface condition. I can handle short distances of compacted gravel (for example, construction areas), but I don't want to ride over miles of unpaved road.

What was your experience on the street bike like? Was it an enjoyable ride, or would you think twice about doing it again?

Michael

I think you will be fine. The road south from Marrakech is great until I think around Asni but even after that is perfectly ridable and sealed all the way. Some of the corners turned from tarmac to concrete and had some gravel on them but as long as you take it easy nothing to worry about. There was one small water.crossing just before ijoukak which was only about three metres wide. I stopped before crossing and it was quite gravelly but bird got through fine. After that the tarmac was good quality so you can focus on the hairpin bends etc. Once over the summit it was a bit rough.for.approx 8kms, gravel/sealed but after that it looks like it had just been resurfaced and I had a great fun heading down the other side. In summary its not the sort of mountain pass you hoon up but rather treat with caution. One thing I did have to be careful with was on comming traffic. In some sections there is only one lane of sealed road with dirt either side. The cars expect you to move over on to the dirt but I just stood my ground. Keep and eye on what is coming towards you and avoid passing the other car on the corners. In general the bird was fine in Morocco on the open road but through towns it can get a bit gravelly and bumpy. Enjoy it. Your holiday. I loved the place, even on a pocket rocket lol...just a shame I lost the duck!!

I rode Tizi-n-Test in March, in wet weather. The surface is generally very good on the approach and on the pass. There were a couple of short sections, no more than 500m, where the tarmac is eroded and potholed and it was a bit muddy. That's was only near the summit afair, but nothing that should put you off - even if the weather is wet. It's a fab route!

Thanks Gazzr & Two Wheels Good, I greatly appreciate your advice.

I went over it a few days back, and apart from a few rough sections where the tarmac has been freeze thawed it is all smooth. Watch out for roadworks on marrakesh side, this will create the worse riding conditions, but its no diferent to any other maroc roadworks. Only 1 km or so in any case. Have a great trip!
