Hi

has anybody been as far as Figuig lately
we are thinking of Figuig to Tan Tan using as much piste as we can in two Land Rovers 4x4 in September or October 2015

So we will travel along the Algerian border

We did Merzouga Tan Tan in 2010 , and found it very good

Should we have any security concerns ?

Did the drive out to Figuig a couple of years ago, not been recently.

I'll be on a similar route from TanTan heading east in October with 7 Landcruisers so if you see us stop and say hello :D

Security should be fine, heavy army presence all the way along to make sure your safe and not venture too close the the Algerian Border.

Don't suppose you have any suggestions for a piste between Tata and Tan Assa from your previous trip?

Looking at old map we used road Tata to Icht then Piste to Assa and on to Guelmim

Look at Wikiloc - GPS trails and waypoints of the World and you can download to your GPS

We were in Fguig in October last year. No trouble at all, even drove down to the border for a look, politely turned around by Moroccan border guard but all very good natured. We then drove a mixture of piste and road following the border to Erg Chebbi. Quite a few police and army checks but again very friendly.

I was in the area in Feb. Rode south along the border from Oujda to Icht (most easterly place in Morocco) then along border heading west to M'hamid and beyond. More military than usual, some previously ok pistes now out of bounds.

I'd forgotten about wikiloc, not found a piste between Tata and Assa but did establish that the one I had previously found running very close to the border is a no go with the military so thanks for the reminder
