Bad weather in North Morocco

Hello all

Arrived in Morocco today at 1am, yesterday crossed the south of Portugal and Spain under heavy rain.

Today it was the same, thunderstorms, heavy rain, transit moving very slowly, from Tanger to Meknes where I am at the moment.

Just wanted to let you guys now. Temperatures are in the 18~20ÂșC range.

I'm going to Midelt soon, trying to do route MH1, but if the same type of rain that I've got so far is there as well, it will be probably closed.

We had very heavy rain in the Granada Altiplano last night and I saw from the weather maps that Morocco got hit again. We are currently fogged in, high in the mountains.

Tony Johnson (from this parish) hit heavy rain in Azrou three weeks or so ago which continued as they travelled south and the Rheris river was flooded in many places. Peter Buitelaar currently has a group in Morocco and they had heavy rain in the south of Azilal.

Its not very good when it is raining all the time. I was beginning to think I was the only one with really bad weather, (in the Balkans). As I type this I am deciding whether to move on today or stay where I am as yet again it is persisting it down heavily again. It is meant to be Big Sun tomorrow
Thankfully I am not in a great rush, still got 7 weeks left

MH1 Repairs

Clubman
I did MH1 2 wks ago and it was being repaired after previous rain. I had to wait on the track for about an hour before the excavator could move to let me pass.
If it has rained recently it may be closed agian.Try and ask the locals near the top if the track is open or,not as it will save you the hassle of having to turn or reverse on the track. You could then do the run down the Todra instead and come back to Dades later.

It's rained in Rabat since yesterday afternoon. Very heavy, very wet!!

Water was almost to the top of the pavement outside the Mauritanian embassy this morning.

The temperature was around 16C, however the sun has literally just come out so should be drying out and warming up soon.

thankfully I was out of the cirque by then, unfornu
I was told that there were several roads around this area closed, and was advised not to do MH3 like I had planned. Tomorrow I'm going South, trying to save this trip !

Two days ago we came through the back roads of southeast RIF mountains. Lots of rocks and mud on the road, some deep but passable. Two river crossings a little hairy, first in a trailer pulled by tractor water too deep to cross with bikes, second crossing we found a route across with water over my boots but not to knee and not moving too fast.

I think the rains have slowed some so should be getting better.

The rock that is washed into the road is very sharp, we had one flat, take tire repair tools and supplies even if the rains have stopped the rock chips will be there for awhile.
