any tips for safe camping in Morocco?

some of my friends with whom I'm going to Morocco planning to sleep in tent aside the bike. Somehow that idea seems not safe to me, mostly because of insects or snakes etc. Not sue about the locals. Anybody did that? any tips for sleeping safe in tent?

Normal stealth camping rules apply. Arrive late, leave early. Out of sight, out of mind. I don't cook where I camp. It helps to have a tent that is not bright orange. If you are in the wood you basically disappear when you sit down. Don't hang stuff in trees. No bonfires.

I've heard those moroccan insects can move an entire vehicle overnight from unsuspecting campers

Very wise to be concerned about them.

ok, I give you guys that you are all brave men and you don't care about wild dogs, snakes and scorpions sharing your tent. I probably would not be able to fall asleep in the desert knowing from books and movies that most of the creature go out at night for hunting. :thumbup1:

This is regular Morocco you're talking about, right?? Not an alternate, post-apocalypse version???

Seriously - yes there are scorpions and other wild things - most of which want nothing more than to not be where you are ....

Keep tents closed, shake out boots and keep clothing off the floor. You'll be fine if you do the same there you'd do at home ....

Tarantulus landrovus is a resident of Morocco. It is so big it can crawlup the rear steps of 4*4s and unpick locks using it's lockpicking madabils. So less of the :D Sir!

That's ok I drive a Toyota :thumbup1:

I make my passenger sleep in a tent though he's never been too concerned about any creepy crawlies apart from the cricket he pitched the tent on

Tarantulous toyotus has been making inroads into the area. It has an Oxcyetlyene torch on it's right hand mandabile.

Scary stuff, even in your imagination.....!

I usually just sit in a proposed campsite for a little while getting the "feel" of the place.

a little drink then up with the tent.

good time to check for pooh and ants nests (especially under pines).

yes - pee bottle may be the most important thing to have along when camping.

In the dryer/arid areas the normal green tents ideal for stealth camping stick out like a sore thumb!

That would be my problem too; I have the previous 'model' that's a fetching yellow! Quite bright . . . .
